Deaths at Sea
« on: Monday 07 January 08 20:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi  - could someone tell me how to find someone that died at sea.
I am looking For Edward Harris who was a seaman - He died between 1835 and 1842. (He lived in Denbury, Devon)
Any help in the right direction would be great
Kind Regards
lillyB

There is an index book for Marine deaths. I believe it is available online  on find-my-past (pay to view).
But someone might have a look for you.

Hi lillyB

Unfortuntely, deaths at sea on Findmypast are from 1854 to 1890 only.

Thank you for the try.
I live in Australia - Hoping to get to England and down to Devon where I might have some luck - in the next 6 months.
But if anyone else out there has any ideas please let  me know.
Kind regards
LillyB

Have you tried the LDS? They can order in parish records for you.

Hi LillyB

Did he definitely die at sea?  There are two Edward Harrises who died at Newton Abbott, Devon, one in 1840, the other 1842.

One of my husband's ancestors died at sea, but his death was registered at Swansea which was close to the Bristol Channel where he died.  So his death wasn't too hard to find.

Hi Rosemary
No - I tried those 2 deaths - Not him - One is a 2 year old and the other is the wrong Edward (although related to my line in another way)
Ciao
