are you still researching? We have Donovans in Wales coming from Clonakilty in 1911.  Patrick born 1853 in Clonakilty and father John Donovan around 1820s. J We know Patrick had Mary and Sylvester as siblings I am sure there were more! Patrick was married to Ellen Wren also of Conakilty in  1878

My wife's O'DONOVANs of Clonakilty are two families - one from the townland of Derrylahan (Dunmanway) and the other from nearby Shannonvale. The Shannonvale connection is probably connected to the O'DONOVANs of O'Donovan's Hotel in Clonakilty, whose ancestry I reviewed in late 2016 (thanks to the owners) who also have Shannonvale origins. Unfortunately, the link is at least a generation before the start of local church records.
The links to the Welsh family out of Clon has not been established to these families.

My great grandmother was Mary O`Donavan (c1825) from Clonakilty.  She was a descendant of Tadhg an Asna (O`Donaavon), who died at the Battle of Big Cross, during the United Irishman rising of 1798.
I am also interested in Donavons in Wales, as I reside there and Donavans come in to my family through marriage, in the Port Talbot area.

From this census, three daughters and the son of Maggie, settled and are buried in Napier, New Zealand.  They are Mary (Molly), Julia (Sheila), Anne (Nance). Maggie died in July 1949, in Great Crosby, Liverpool, England. These three ladies (the old Aunts) lived together in their last years of life - attending church being their main occupations. I met them as old ladies.  Nance was the darling that all the small children adored.

There was family talk of one of more brothers also living in New Zealand or Australia.  Someone recalled one of them visiting Napier with his wife and children.
Can anyone add more?

Fenian1956... other family talk says that the family was linked to Michael Collins, via an Aunt.  Can you add anything to this idea? I have no idea how this connection would occur.

Hi Kae.  Sorry, but I can't offer any ideas regarding the Big Fella.  My Collins line is on the other side of the family, although both families are from the same part of West Cork, Dumanway and Sweet Clonakilty.  I know Collins was born in Sams Cross, not too far from Bandon.  Thats about it really.  I believe his family line can be found online.

Fenian1956... thanks for the information.  I'll go search for his family tree.  I am looking for an Aunt (Miss Donovan), who will be an in-law on his family tree.  I need the link to my family....or is this just a bit of Irish myth - someone saw the surname a claimed her as a relative?
But I guess that would be a dangerous claim to make back then...  am I correct in this thought?
