Hi
First Card is for a Gallantry award-The Military Medal. He got it whilst in the Royal Engineers "Special Company" which was usually involved in Gas warfare.
He should have an entry in the London Gazette but i doubt it will have a citation it will give name and place of residence.. it was gazetted on 21/10/18 so could take up to 3 months to be put in the paper. the LG is available online.

2nd card is his Medal Index Card.
His numbers next to the Regiments he served start with Suffolk Regiment Royal Sussex and finally Royal Engineers.
He was entitled to British War and Victory Medals plus his MM which means he didnt deploy oveseas until 1916 as there is no Star issued.

The numbers next to the Medals refer to the Rolls at Kew which would give dates overseas and Battalion it seems to be with the RE rolls(Not available online!)
The Z Coy Special Brigade may have a war diary which could mention his MM award it may be online at the NA or try the RE museum/Library at Brompton Barracks Chatham.

Hope this helps Ady

Hello!

Sorry to 'hijack' this post. I too had a relative who was in Royal Engineers Z Special (Flamethrower) Company.
Sadly he was KIA on 25th July 1918, aged 32.
His name was Private Samuel Latham 134869

I see that the person in question at the beginning of this post served in action that was could have been reported up to three months late. Its possible both my relative and the chap on this medal card actually served in the same action.
I have been on the national achive records but there is an I.T issue that wont let me view the diary for the time that my relative died.

can anyone help?
thankyou :)
