I Just had a Look at the image for 1901 looking at the wifes name and it is deffinately Maud E and with a diff POB than Maggie in 1891...Did he have 2 wives? There is a 10 year old Frederick listed as nephew with William Clutterbuck 24 Head Mother Emma 51 Siblings Beatrice 26 and arthur 20 All born Bedminster...Lets me know if u want full details..Thought it seemed strange also that Frederick has gone from Harness maker to Coal Miner..But it must be the same person! Dont seem to be any others...Kris  ???

Kris,
Thanks. You've been working overtime on this one.

The 2nd wife is a bit of a surprise. I'll have to investigate further.

As for the change of career, I know the family moved to a mining area of South Wales when Ethel was a child, so that sort of fits.

I would like the other details, please, if it's no trouble.

Two different Freds I am afraid. Fredk James Matthews Saddler & Harness Maker was my grandfather, married to Maggie Clutterbuck. The Saddlery goes back 200 years and the coal miner is not connected with this family.
