Women Munitions Workers WW1

Don't know if this goes here, but anyway, can anyone give me some information on trying to locate women munition workers records in London during World War 1. Cheers

The Enfield King website has a section which names three London manufactures of various types of .303 cartirdges. http://enfieldking.tripod.com/enfieldking/id13.html

Pre war there were 200,000 women in what became the munitions industry. When the war ended that number had increased to 900,000.

You may have more luck attempting to find the names of the various companies that made the arms, munitions and vehicles and then search for their staff records.

Not sure if this is of any help to you my grandad  and  12 girl workers were killed 1924 in a filling factory which use to be a munitions factory look on

Anyway the reason i think it may help was i got intouch with and was helped by Erith and Belvedere Local History Society ,if you were to e-mail them i think they could help.The munitions factory was on Crayford marshes called The Trench Warfare filling factory so alot of the women around Erith would have worked there

The tradedy took place at the Slade Green Filling Factory which had been a munitions works under Government control but at the time of the incident was being used by the company of Messrs W. B. Gilbert Ltd for the breaking down of munitions. www.whitstablescene.co.uk/1924.htm
