Newham Family Whitby connection

Hi can anyone help whith tracing whaling crew records in Whitby, trying to find  a connection with the Newham family of South Shields and whitby whalers, all the Newhams were seamen, in particular any information on James Tindle Newham, Master Mariner, 1836 to 1879,

failing that if you can get to whitby try the lit & phil in the museum in pannet park they have quite a few crew lists.

You may also want to check under Newholm/e as well I did some research for someone and that version keep popping up.

Thanks Shipwright, for all the info, i did not expect such a reply so quickly, i will sift through the info a try and find a link.  I was unaware of the amount of Newhams in Whitby, the connection between South Shields and Whitby was the transport of Alum.  Thanks again for all your kind help.
