My Great Grandfather William Wood was born in Sunderland, England in 1826.  He married Harriet Wearmouth in 1849. They had six children. His wife died in 1864.  According to family tales William left England after she died and emigrated to Canada or America possibly with two of his sons.  One of the sons may have been George Beldon Wood born 1855 at Aycliff, Co Durham, England.  I would be grateful if anyone can help.

I know it's a quantum leap but....

George Belden Wood married Dorothy L Gilman  28 Nov 1970 in Las Vegas.  The residence for both was listed as California.

I see there was a George Beldon Wood born in Sunderland in 1889 (died 1890).  Could this be the son of the older George?  There was a George Wood born 1855 living in Sunderland in 1891.  Maybe he didn't go with his father.  Or perhaps he followed him several years later.

Thank you for replying to my query.

William's brother George married Jane Thompson, they emigrated to America where they both died so its possible that the marriage you have found for 1970 could have a connection to them.  There is a web site belonging to George Graham with all the details on.  I have contributed to the site with details of my ancestors.  The site is www.members.cox.net

The  George Beldon Wood birth 1889 and death 1890 was the Grandson of my William Wood, his father also William married Isabella Lunan in 1881.

Can you let me know where you found the details  about the George Wood birth 1855 and where he was living in Sunderland in 1891.

Hi Judith,

There are actually a few George Wood entries for 1891 in Durham.  I found them on Ancestry.

George Wood born abt 1856 Sunderland, living in Sunderland, Bishop Wearmouth
     married to Margaret Jane age 28 born Sunderland, son William age 11 days born Sunderland

George Wood born abt 1855 Monkwearmouth, living in Willington
     married to Mary Ann age 33 born Willington, children John 14, Henry 7, Elizabeth 5, George 3,
     Thomas W 1, all born Willington

George Wood born abt 1856 Durham, living in Bacup Lancashire
     married to Mary age 36 born Derbyshire, daughter Mary Ward 10 (definitely looks like Ward not Wood)

None of them match George's 1871 occupation of blacksmith.
