Interesting! Here is a wrench in the works... :D
The IGI has an extracted file for christening... a James Wearmouth Wood
November 13th, 1859   Seamer By Stokesley, Yorks
Father Mark and mother Ann???
Hmmmm...Coincidence... or an adoption by a brother, perhaps...or a mistake in the register file, as wearmouth is the mother's name, isn't it ?   J.J.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is also a birth  freeBMD  June Q. 1889  for a
George Beldon Wood   Sunderland  v.10a  p.614
with a death for same the following year...
Might be a brother's or his own...
Hello
I am not sure how to reply to individuals so I will reply to all.
To Janice M - Thank you for the passenger list sites.  I will have a look at them.
I have already been in touch with George Graham the owner of the web site you mentioned.  It is a very good site which I have contributed to it with my family etc.  His connection is with my missing William Wood's brother.
The George Beldon Wood who's birth and death listed on BMD is the son of William Wood (son of William and Harriet)
The birth for James Wearmouth Wood is on the IGI - parents William Wood and Harriet.  The other birth with parents Mark and Ann may have a connection but I have not come across anything so far.
I have an old photograph of a smartly dressed male - no one knows who it is but on the back of the photograph is the name and address of the photographer which is Sheppard & Daguere - 117 King Street East, Toronto.
I would like to think that he is or connected to William Wood - but who knows?
Ainsley - Lanchester and Witten Gilbert
Bowman - Framwellgate and Sunderland
Marley - Witten Gilbert
Waggott - Sunderland
Turner - Lanchester
Watchman - Witten Gilbert, Satley
Swan - Belford
Gray - Tanfield
Wood -  Sunderland, Lee Saint John
Wilson - South Shields
Wearmouth - Houghall, Durham Area
Davison - Burtle or Birtley, Northumberland.
Hi Hindhaugh. Can't help with your enquiry directly but I too have a William Wood in Canada (unfortunately not yours). Mine was in Nova Scotia but I noticed lots of Wood families in that area. You may find some trace of him by searching the Canadian census. Mine were in River Herbert, Cumberland, NS. Good luck!
