Wonder why the year is 1831.

That excerpt is on page 11 and if you go back to page 1 it gives you headers for each column. So 1831 indicates year of marriage.

I sent you a PM.

Hello!

I have several McGettigan's and Dorrians in my tree. I also have several DNA matches to McGettigan. I also have Parkes, as someone mentioned in this thread.

Hello Annie

Welcome to Rootschat :)

What company did you use for your DNA testing? I originally used Ancestry but have loaded my DNA onto Gedmatch, MyHeritage and MyFTDNA.

Hi,
I think I just replied in a totally new thread!
Yes, I'm on Ancestry as well as Gedmatch.
Are you?  Are we a match?

Toner/McDevitt - Ballygallon
Hello,
I’m looking for some help from Mabs, please.

1. My great great grandparents were Hugh (Hudie) McDevitt and Mary Toner, Ballygallon. I understand that Mary was a sister of Susan (McGinley) and Peter Toner. Was Mary from Kirkstown originally?

2. Could you share the newspaper article of the funeral of Fr. Peter McDevitt, please?

3. We were always told that we were descended from ‘the Solomon’s’. Were the Solomon Toners originally from Kirkstown or from Glenswilly? Being a Solomon was almost like a badge of honour but I’d love to know why.

Many thanks, Mabs.

Sorry I didn't get a notification from Rootschat regarding your post. I only just noticed it on the forum list. It's been awhile since I looked at the Toners.

As far as I can figure out there are two Toner families and I think they must be related. I call them the Kirktown Toners and Crossog Toners. Also in my opinion if you see a Toner family with a Peter in it then there must be a connection.

Apparently Peter Toner of Kirkstown had three wives but I have only heard of one called Nancy McGee. I have no hard evidence of her existence. Just "word of mouth". I have so far found the following children:

Susan Toner who married Michael “Mici Beag” McGinley
Peter Toner who married Bridget Parke (my family)
Mary Toner who married Hugh “Hudie” McDevitt

I have seen on various trees on Ancestry a Peter Solomon Toner but I can’t figure out or discover how that Solomon second name relates to him.  He is a Crossog Toner. I was told by another member on RC that this Peter's 1st wife was a Catherine (pos Reilly) but I have no proof. His second wife was an Ann or Nancy. The only child I have found from a first wife is a Philip Toner (1829-1918). With his second wife Ann/Nancy he had Mary, William, Bridget, Ellen, Catherine and Peter.

I don’t know the relationship between the first Peter (Kirkstown) and the second Peter (Crossogs). I did a few what-ifs but I don't know.

The Kirkstown Peter is my 3rd great grandfather and the Crossog Peter shows up on my tree as the father-in-law of my 1st cousin 3x removed. His daughter Bridget Toner married James McDevitt son of Hugh “Hudie” McDevitt and Mary Toner.

I'll see if I can find the newspaper article of the funeral of Fr. Peter McDevitt.

2) Rev. Peter McDevitt P.P. Carrick d. 25 Oct  1905

Messrs. Jas. and Michael McDevitt, Glenswilly (brothers)
Miss M.E. McDevitt (niece)
Hugh, Peter and Michael McDevitt (nephews)
Rev. Jas. Toner C.C. Drumoghill (cousin) Just as an FYI Rev. James Toner is my great granduncle.
