Hi kpnuts,

as Wolfgang says, Dorothea is quite a common name in Germany.

According to the site Ev mentions
"Dorothea was the name of two saints, including the patron saint of Prussia."
which makes it a "given" for many religious families  :)

On the german Wiki page, http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorothea (*) it mentions Theodora as variant, and also Dorothee
Another variation is Dörthe (Doerthe)

regards,
Bob

(*)there is an english Wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorothea as well. It doesn't mention any german connections there, but it does give a link to the german Saint Dorothea:

... and as Wilhelmina (female form of Wilhelm , i.e. William) is very definitely a german name (lots of Queens and Princesses), then it's more than likely that your Dorothea was named after german ancestors.

Happy New Year  :D.  Just thought I would mention my cousin (Scottish) has Dorothea as her middle name. Named for her grandfather the nearest they could get to Theodore.  Cheers Evelina
