For many years i believed that my Grandfather, Arthur McNally had originated from Skerries, but then it turned out that he was from nearby Ballykea. Over recent times the picture has got a little clearer, including, this week, a look at the 1911 census. What i know so far is this:
My Great Grandfather - Lawrence McNally Born Co Dublin circa 1859, Died c1943
" "" """ Grandmother Margaret McNally (nee ?) Co Dublin " 1863 Died c1943
My Grandfather - Arthur McNally, born circa 1891/2 died Salford UK 1959
He had 4 sisters Mary (1893) Catherine (1901) Margaret (1903) Jane (1905)
My Grandfather is still listed as living at home in 1911, and in March of 1917 his first son, Lawrence, was born, in Salford UK, so he must of left during this time. I believe he went to sea.
In the 1911 census there is another Lawrence (or Laurence) McNally, a shopkeeper, in the tiny hamlet. I have no idea if they were related
In the late 1980's my late father went to Ireland when he & his brothers had to deal with the sale of a cottage. The documents talk of the (then) recent deaths of Mary & Jane (Jenny or Jeanie) McNally so i presume they never married. I think Catherine's married name was Colgan.
I myself grew up in Manchester, and sadly have never even stepped foot on the Emerald Isle. Now i live thousands of miles away, so research is not easy.
If anyone could move me forward or fill in any of the details i would be most grateful
