Watt roots
« on: Tuesday 18 December 07 16:20 GMT (UK) »
Having trouble making connections re my Watt roots. My great grandparents where James Watt (born Wisahw 1868, died Newart Hill 1919) and his wife Christina W Watt.

James Watt above had siblings names Margaret, Isabella and William. Their parents (my great great grandparents) were Robert Watt (born 1835, died 1901 Wishaw) and Margaret Hill.

Robert above (1835-1901) had sister names Isabella Simpson Watt and their parenst were James Watt (1803 Shotts - 1869 Wishaw) and Isabella Simpson - my greatx3 grandparents.

James Watt above (1803-1869) had 2 sisters Janet and Eupehmia and their parents (my greatx4 grandparents) were Robert Watt (1770 - 1856 Lanark) and Agnes Dougald.

Robert above (1770-1856) had 2 brothers Alexander Watt and Reverend Hugh Watt - their parents wew James Watt and Euphemia Reid - (my greatx5 grandparents).

-- Rev Hugh Watt was minister at Old Monklands and is buried there in family tomb, and he also had a son Rev William Martin Watt who was minister at Kirk o Shotts and is burried there in family lair with a window memorial also.

Love to hear from any connections.....

Amazing how many of these names are in my Watt ancestry, too......wrong dates and wrong parents, however.  I do wonder if they could have been related a few generations back, though.  They seem to have been in Lanark for a long time.

My Watt g-g-grandmother, Isabella, married Joseph Bradfield and returned to his home in West Yorkshire in about 1802.  Her parents were Thomas and Isobel Rodger Watt, with his parents being James Watt and Euphame Barr.  I have her family back farther, but haven't located parents for James as yet.  He was born in Cambusnethan, Lanark.........perhaps there is a film for the parish records I can look at.
