I had a note (to myself) to look-up church records at Longbenton (Northumberland) for McGeorge... but I don't know why ?

Anyway, today in Newcastle City Library (open Sundays 12-1600) I saw abbreviated transcriptions for Longbenton Parish....

William McGeorge 23 Oct 1844, son of William and Mary ANN McGeorge.

Burial
Mary McGeorge 18 Sep 1849, at William Pit, 10 days old.

B/M/B 1852-61, and 1862-1871.
No other McGeorge entries

I have a Thomas McGeorge, born in URR Parish 1797, according to his US Naturalization file (1844). Other details: left Scotland 9 June 1817, and in the U.S. first settled in Marion Township, Maine, on 20 Dec. 1826. May 3, 1835 he moved to East Machias township, settling about nine miles north of the town, where the railway tracks cross Route 191.
QUESTION: ANY ideas on who his parents were?  I suspect from records he could be from Hermitage farm, part of of Spotts estate (Michael Herries landlord). - Tom Moffatt

I am interested in the same person as you guys. I have to say, very impressive knowledge about the naming patterns in Scottish families, had no idea about it but will now try and use it.

My wife is a descendant from James McGeorge, and I also want to find out where he came from. My question is, why did you focus specifically on Esther and William as his parents?

What I mean is, going on ancestry.co.uk, there are few possible candidates for that:

They are all from the same county, and yet different people. How can we know which one of them is our James McGeorge?

I re-read the discussion, and that's a really good finding that James stated his father was called William.

But we have a William McGeorge from that area which was a mason and was not married to Esther:

I am still on the hunt for all McGeorge names.  I am attaching the marriage for William MacGeorge who married Esther Alcock, 22 Dec 1806 at Greystock, Cumberland, LDS film 90623.  I was hoping that it may say where William came from, well it did but it was the next parish - Castle Sowerby. So that doesn't help to find his birth place.

I have started a McGeorge DNA project in hope to link some of the families together.  It requires a direct McGeorge male to have the swab taken, quite painless, but a tad expensive I must agree. However at the moment the familytreedna.com  have a special until the end of December 2014. The cost is $US129. 
I do urge any McGeorge males to have the Y-DNA37 test so we can build up the database and try to connect the families.  The results do not say that you are third cousins, but can say that you are connected to another person and then it is up to us to find the link.  I had to get my male McGeorge cousin to represent our family ( I am a mere female)
