Help
Believe that Samuel Stevens (born about 1809 in Smalley) is the father of William Stevens (born 1836 Borrowash), but can not find any certain link.
Any ideas where I can look.

Many Thanks

Starting with Samuel, I can find no evidence that he was born in Smalley; though I note an IGI LDS submssion that gives him as the s/o John & Hannah Stevens, and married to Lydia.
This couple were indeed baptising children in Smalley from 1801 to 1806 but Samuel is not recorded, and the family were from Mapperley.

Looking at census records, the only Samuel/William connection I can see is this in 1851, Leek & Lowe, Staffs -
Samuel b abt 1809 at Dale Abbey
Lydia b abt 1804 at Ashby Partney, Leics
William b abt 1836 at Ockbrook
The other children were born either at Ockbrook or Spondon.
Borrowash is roughly between these two parishes.

Do you have any information that might help identify this family?

Just to confuse things, there is another Stevens family on the 1851 census at Mapperley, with a Smalley connection -
Thomas b abt 1814 at Smalley
Eliza b abt 1813 at Stanley
William b abt 1836 at Mapperley
Also John 1836; Ann 1839, and Emma 1842, all born at Mapperley.

As before, I have nothing on Thomas that is Smalley related.

Any thoughts?
