Alexander Taylor of Cardiff
« on: Thursday 13 December 07 21:10 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone come across Alexander Taylor (Anchor testing Engineer) who appears at !3 Augusta Street in cardiff in the 1871 Census. I am unable find a death on Freebmd or 1837 lists or at Thornhill. By 1879 his two orphaned daughters were the responsibility of Alderman john McConnochie, (their uncle). One died of TB and the other was found dead in the Glamorganshire Canal. I am trying to find out if his wife was John McConnochie's (Scottish) sister or maybe another (German) sister-in-law. There was another daughter Elizabeth.
Thanks John

From 1871 this looks very likely birth reg for Elizabeth b Lancs, liverpool

Births Sep 1859   Taylor  Elizabeth McChonnon     West Derby  8b 326
(Freebmd original index looks very much like Elizabeth McChonnochie Taylor to me - but check)

If you get this cert,  it should then give you mothers' name.

Hi Cas,
Thanks for useful info. I sent to Registry for both Janet lennox Certs and had a refund for their unfortunate double entry on two years old. I will obtain Wilhelmina's cert which will confirm my research.
Regards
John

It looks possible that Alex and Margaret seperated, (unless Robert and Alex are the same man ??)and she is living with Mr Moffat.  Also cannot locate a death for Alex.

Did your Alderman John have a sister Margaret?
