Parentage, etc. of John Dorward

Hi,

Can anyone help me find information about the parentage and ancestry of JOHN DORWARD b. 1834, Lochie, d. Mar 28, 1899, Blairgowrie.

He married Barbara Ramsay, Jan. 14, 1854 in Kirkbuddo.

I looked on IGI, but there are so many John Dorwards, it's impossible to determine which is the right one.

Your help will be appreciated.

you say he was born in lochie but i notice on the 1861 census
john dorward and barbara ramsay and his birth place given as lochee
lochee was a village on western side of dundee
you also have a death date for him so you should be able to get
a certificate from scotlandspeople website
the one i found had children john, william, james, and david
and was a ploughman

     his deathplace would come under the county of perthshire

Thanks very much for the information.

My information does not show a middle name, and though I have Lochie, Dundee for birthplace, I have no proof of his actual birthdate.  Other names for parents could be JOHN DORWARD and JANE/JEAN JACKSON.

The name John was certainly popular in the Dorward family.

Here is what I've found.  John son of John Dorward and Barbara Ramsay was born Feb 3, 1854.  Strangely, Barbara is listed as the father John Dorwood's "spouse" unlike all others on the record wherein the mother of the child is listed as the "wife".  Hmmmmm.

Needless to say, I have yet to find a marriage of John Dorward and Barbara Ramsay nor can I locate a marriage for a John Dorward and Jane Jackson.  I was not able to locate census records for a John Dorward in the 1841 or 1851 census' that line up with the known names and dates.  As Scotland's records are very thorough, I'm of a mind to think they were not in Scotland as late as the marriage of John and Barbara and possible not until after the 1851 census.

I did see the John Straiten Dorward (B: Jun 11, 1934) but unlike his death record that lists John Dorward and Jane Jackson as his parents, this birth record indicates James Dorward and Margaret Gale (Gall) as the parents.

Thanks to both of you for your help.

I have Census records for 1861, 1871, 1881 for Burnside, Guthrie that show John Dorward, wife Barbara Ramsay, and their children (names accurate according to family records).

In 1871 Census, John, Barbara and their children are residents on farm of her brother Robert and his wife Catherine.

Barbara died Oct 19, 1882, and in the 1891 Census, John is shown at 17 Manor Street, Forfar, widower with daughter Margaret age 20.  She was born Feb 22, 1871 - full name Margaret Ramsay Dorward.

John's year of birth (1834) may not be accurate and it is his birth and his parents' information that I would really like to find.

Death Reg. for John Dorward, 64, died March 29, 1899 in Parish of Blairgowie, Perth.  Parents John Dorward and Jane Jackson.  Also mentions married to Sophia Mary? Greenwood.
