Berkshire Chronicle 1820
« on: Thursday 06 December 07 20:31 GMT (UK) »
I live in the United States.
Can someone please tell me how to go about finding out if there was anything written in the Berkshire Chronicle about a particular Berkshire Assizes trial which took place on July 10, 1820?
Thank you.

The Berkshire Record Office are always very helpful. Their website is -

www.berkshirerecordoffice.org.uk/familyhistory/index.htm

If you click on 'contact' it gives you a box to send them an email.

If they don't actually keep the archives for the Berkshire Chronicle, I'm sure they'll tell you who does.

Good luck.

The local archives for Berkshire newspapers are not held by the BRO but by Reading Local Studies Library. The British Library also has copies.

There are some years missing but by 1820 they will have every copy.

There is a report in the Times of 21 July covering a breach of promise case at the Berkshire Assizes in Reading (one of the attorneys was gaoled).

Hello newburychap.

Thank you very much for responding to my enquiry.  I am grateful to you.

I have taken your advice and sent off a couple of email messages.  One to the Reading Local Affairs Library, and the other to The British Library. It could be 5 days or so before I receive a response.  We'll see what happens.

Best regards,

bcra.

Have you looked up on the web for the book of Eastbury,  possibly you may be able to read it there ?
