Hi Donna,

Please could you see if there is a death for a William McIvor/McIver/Mckiver (there are so many spelling variations! ::)) - I know he lived in Maybole, Ayrshire for a while and at one time he was a Policeman. Probably born c1790 and died between 1820-1840.

Many thanks,
millerina  :)

Hi Donna

I'm wondering if you've got anything for Cecilia Mair, widow of John Miller. She's recorded under her maiden name in Ayr in the 1841 census, living with her son John. She was born in Galston & lived in Maybole after her marriage.

The other one I'm looking for is a Julia Downie, recorded as aged 70 in Ayr in 1841. I don't know if Downie is a maiden or married name.

Thanks Donna, I think "Mrs Miller" (did our lang deids do this just to be awkward?!) may have been the granddaughter-in-law of Cecilia - there was a grandson John Miller born 1805 so a 45-year old wife in 1842 would be quite possible, particularly with the baker connection.

I think Julia may be one of those who never gets traced - she pops up in the 1841 census living in the same household as Cecilia & her family. She has the same surname as Cecilia's daughter-in-law.  There's no sign of a birth under Downie & I don't have any confirmed birth information for Jane Downie (d-i-l of Cecilia) either so don't know if she had brothers or aunts by marriage. Anyway worth knowing that there's not much chance of tracing either death.

Thanks again, Blanched
