George Foster
« on: Wednesday 05 December 07 18:04 GMT (UK) »
I'm searching for ongoing information about George Foster who was baptised in 1791, St. Pancras Parish, Middlesex. His Father was John Foster, his Mother was Ann Foster  Should anyone have any information about his life I would appreciate hearing about the details.

My Great Grandfather was a George Foster who was transported to Port Jackson, New South Wales, Australia as a convict aboard the "Eliza 2" in 1822. I would very much like to know who his parents were and where he was born.  The only information I have about his early beginnings in England comes from his 1827 "Certificate of Freedom" which indicates his "Year of Birth" was "1791".

Are the two George Foster's you mention possibly the same person?  Or have I read that totally wrong?

Hi Debbie,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

The person I am looking for is the same, my Great Grandfather.  The Yorkshire and Middlesex postings are seeking information about two different individuals in the hope of finding evidence of a connection.

I have actually posted messages on 3 different "Boards".  Sussex, Yorkshire, & Middlesex.

Sussex because his "Certificate of Freedom" indicates his "Native Place" was Tyshurst.  There is no modern day town in England by this name.  Research indicates that Ticehurst in East Sussex was once named "Tyshurst". Actually the "Certificate of Freedom" says "Tyshurst, Warwickshire".

Yorkshire because "familysearch.org" indicates that there was a George Foster christened on 12 Jan, 1791, Sheriff Hutton, Yorkshire whose Father's name was "George Foster".  My Gr. Grandfather's New South Wales 1886 Death Certificate indicates his Father's name was "George".

Middlesex because ancestry.com indicates that a George Foster was baptized in 1791 in St. Pancras Parish, Middlesex. My George Foster was tried and convicted at the Berkshire Assizes in 1820.

Is there something in particular that caught your eye?

Hi Bcra,

Nothing more than the fact it was in Middlesex as some of mine were there at various times.

It all sounds very complicated!!  Did he appear on any census returns in Aus that could give any further clues?  Or do you have anymore info on Tyshurst warwickshire?

Sorry I can't help you, but I'm sure someone on here will be able to!

Good luck,

Debbie :)

Hi Bruce ....... 'tis me again ......... I wonder,as he was tried in Berks, could it be his birthplace was 'Tilehurst' (not Ticehurst) near Reading Berks that was his birthplace and it was badly transcribed?
