Would anyone be able to find date of death for Audley William J. Bestall b.1848/50 in Creeduff, Castlederg and I believe living around Co Down Lisburn or Downpatrick areas when he died, please?
Also when and where did Audley's first wife Mary Jane Caldwell b.1856 die?  She left three young children and I believe he then re married Mary P. Campbell in 1883 at Magherahamlet Pres. Church, Downpatrick, Down.  They then had my grandmother Charlotte Elizabeth b.1880 but did they have any other children?

Any thoughts would be gratefully received and access to probate docs would be good if that is possible?
Thanks in anticipation!!

Thanks again for this information which you did send me before.  I have slotted it into my tree but am finding it confusing because George and Margaret Caldwell Bestall's son Audley William also married a Caldwell Mary Jane daughter of Henry Caldwell and Sarah McFarland (obviously how my grandmother Bestall and grandfather McFarland were introduced).  Mary Jane Caldwell Bestall died 1882.  Audley Bestall then married Mary P. Campbell in Downpatrick but I can't find out whether they had any children.  Anything in the sentinel about their deaths? Or anywher else, please>

Hello, I'm back!

Just returned from a visit to Belfast and also headed west to Co.Tyrone in search of the ancestors which was a wonderful experience.

Explored New Park, Dromore and through a distant cousin found the grave of Neville Mcfarland (1778-1860) in the old Dromore churchyard.  He died age 82 in 1860, his wife Margaret died in 1860 and their son Robert died also in 1860.  I wonder what happened that they all died in the same year?

I think Neville and Margaret's children were:-
Elizabeth b.1820
Susan b.1822/3
Sarah b.1825
Matilda b.1827
Anne b.1830
Robert b.1832
Joseph b.1835

I am lost as to where the above were born, any thoughts please?

What remains a mystery is Neville jnr who is listed on the Griffiths Valuation of Tenements 1875 along with his father the above Neville snr. and again in the 1901 census living with wife Anne age 75 and he is 66 which makes his birthdate around 1834/5 so is he the above Joseph but known as Neville? If not when was Neville born?  Again any ideas?

I visited Omagh Library which had a great family history department and enabled me to see the Mcfarland's in the 1901 census.  When visiting Belfast I went to the PRONI which was a fantastic source of information but I didn't have long enough there so will have to return another time.

Thanks roots chatters for all your help pointing me in the right direction.

Glad to hear that you've enjoyed searching for your family.
Don't know if you've searched PRONI Will extracts yet (fairly recent):
Mary Patterson Bestall died 19/4/1915- husband Audley W.J. Bestall gentleman
Also a Sarah Catherine Bestall died 1900 and Henry C. Bestall died 1915.

Hello aghadowey,

Thanks for the PRONI Will extract site I have just checked it out and it makes fascinating and extremely useful reading.  I'll be looking longer at that one no doubt.

Another interesting fact I have found on the Bestall/Caldwell line is that we have a castle!  Castle Caldwell now a ruin on Lough Erne in Co Fermanagh.  We are related to Sir James Caldwell 1st Bart (1630-1716) who lived at Castle Caldwell through his brother Alexander.  I found this really exciting and found a good web site www.thepeerage.com which helped me trace the line quite easily.

Well well whatever will I discover next?!!!! Certainly another visit planned later in the year to Co Fermanagh to trace our roots back to the 1600's.  I can't wait.

Thanks again.
