1891 Lancashire Look UP - CONNOLLY
« on: Sunday 02 December 07 15:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Please could someone look up the name of Ellen Connolly (Connelly) in the 1891 Lancashire Census.

She was born in approx 1879 and her father's name was Thomas.

Unfortunately I have not been able to trace her in the 1881 census

Hi Loulou,

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

There are many Ellen Conn*lly's around! Would you happen to know where she was born, and what Thomas's occupation was?

I suppose you have her marriage certificate - can you read the witnesses' names? (in case they're related)

Hi Tati,

Thanks for getting back to me - I think I may now have found her in Hebden Bridge under the surname of Conley - she has been very hard to find, as you say there are so many of them.  I understand from her 1901 census she was recorded as being born in Lancs, Todmorden but I haven't been able to trace her in the 1891 or 1881 census with these details.

All I can get from her marriage certificate is the name of her father Thomas, that he was a Dyer.  The witnesses were: John Greenwood and Elizabeth Coburn.

Thinking about it - perhaps Elizabeth is her sister - will go and check this out.

Thanks again,

loulou12

Hmmm. I can't see the 1901 census for Ellen that you mention! Could you post the reference?

Have been searching for an Ellen born Todmorden with dad Thomas but am not finding anything either  :(

Hi Tati

I think she might be Mrs Ellen Sutcliffe in 1901, married to Frank.

Sorry, I do not know :-\

It might not be her in 1901, but Mrs Sutcliffe seems to be the only possible entry in 1901 from which the information about Todmorden and Hebden Bridge could have been gleaned and there is a possible Marriage Registration for an Ellen Connelly and a Frank Sutcliffe in Todmorden in 1897.

However, there is no birth registered in Todmorden between 1877 and 1880 (inclusive) for an Ellen or Helen Con*ley (per se) so she might not be from there, despite what it says on the census.

Best wait for loulou to give the census reference and any other information that is available which might help.

DS

Edit

Ricky might have already found her.....
