Hello Bob.
I have just logged onto rootsweb for the first time and seen your posting re. William Herbert. I had always assumed that William of Tottenham and Nottingham were the same person but if the factory was built in 1810 then ofcourse this cannot be so. However it is certainly the same family. William of Nottingham was a Methodist Local Preacher who had his children baptised in the Methodist Chapel in Nottingham but gave his address for at least one of their baptisms as living in Middlesex. Some of the Directories also provide Nottingham and Tottenham as his address.
He was a good friend of one of my ancestors, another Methodist local preacher. Both their names appear in the local circuit plans. I would love to trace a picture of William. One of his daughters, Mary Elizabeth (born 1844), was a close friend of my ancestor's daughter - in fact she was visiting them in 1861 when her father was staying at his factory in Pilcher Gate, Nottingham. I have tracked Mary Elizabeth forward to her marriage and early death in Paddington. Hope this helps
Peter
