Hi Jennifer

Would that mean going to Kew to see the records?  Or is the another way?  ... Sorry to sound dumb but I'm kinda new at this!

Thanks for replying :)

Let us know when you get the certificate Lesley.  I have a street index for the 1861 London census and am happy to look up the occupants of the address he gives on his marriage certificate.

George is still alive in 1891 (armless) I see but his son William is noted as paralysed ! What a sad family.

Barbara

Hi Barbara

Got the certificate and the address is Upper Carlisle street - no number though I'm afraid.  I think it must have been his wife Sarah's parents house originally, as the Census lists the same street as their address is 1851 and 1841.  But in 1861 Sarah's family (Chatterly's) are in Richmond street, and she happens to be a visitor there on the night of the census.

Any help gratefully received!

Hello Lesley

I have found Upper Carlisle Street (Marylebone) and looked for George but did not see him.  The ref is RG 9 87 f 50-57 - you may like to have a look too.

I did see a Chatterly family living there (headed by a George) and I wondered whether George Batten had given this address as one of convenience.

In the street index Upper Carlisle Street is shown as being part of Richmond Street.

I wonder where George was hiding in 1861 or whether he was on one of the missing census pieces?

I see you were asking about researching police records. I have never done this but suspect you might need to go to Kew or get a researcher.  However, maybe someone with some knowledge on this will provide an answer now this post has bee revived!

If not, do use the Search function on Rootschat as I am sure this query has come up before.  And then if you still need help post a new question.

I am sure somebody can advise  :)

Hi Barbara

Many thanks for looking for me.  I'll have to just admit that he's lost!

I'll have a search about the police records

Have a great Christmas!
