Hi all. I am so pleased that what Michel set out to do has come to fruition. He has a host of friends he has accumalated along the way. Especially Annie.
We must remain positive here. I personally think that the Editor of the Echo pulled a blinder for us. if they didn't mention rootschat so what, you can, you can email the letter pages on there and let the readers know who you are. It was about the act not the actors. I stress the importance is showing that you cared enough.
The most important thing is that Michel set out to return a metal disc of no real significance to a family in Liverpool. By his effort he not only has Roberts name in print in a much read City newspaper that is read by expats all around the world. He has given the people of Liverpool another unsung hero. A man who fought for his country and died too young. I am sure that people will come to St Peters and take a moment at Roberts grave. Even just to see what the fuss is all about. I do feel that it doesn't matter whether the disc was found on a beach a field or on the street. It was found and because of it it created an outpouring of emotion that gained momentum and eventually after lots of peoples time and effort is now at the penultimate chapter. Robert is found and his disc is safe. He is now remembered today along with all his comrades but to me the best gift is that Robert Stead is the beacon a positive influence on people reading about the plight of todays soldier. Passing the baton on to people who will hopefully take heed and support our lads because of Robert Stead.
I am pleased with the effort of all of you on here, whatever your role. Whether you donated or not you have added the support to keep it going. I feel the Editor did the best he could with what he had. I wrote emotive stuff to him and he has acted on it. You all care and others will too when they read the story. We all have the cause within us or it wouldn't have gotten this far.
Michel must be over the moon, I am sure Michel won't mind being called a farmer! He is a very dedicated and lucky man to have met all of you on his quest.
I felt sad that MissM felt she had to apologise today, she has no need at all. I would not have taken on the task of sorting out the financial side of it. A nightmare job.
We can all thank her when as many of us as possible gather at Roberts Grave. We should be positive and thankful. We know the details and if people ask how you can pass them on. The ultimate is if a distant relative is tonight reading the Echo and realise that Robert is being looked after by his friends on roots from all around the globe. That his headstone will be erected to its former glory for all the world to see.
People go to St Peters to visit Bob Paisley's grave, Elaenor Rigby's and Father Mackenzies. Now thanks to all of you they will be visiting Robert Stead's so crack open a bottle of wine (French of course) and drink to us all. To Michel to Annie to Miss M to Graham even the editor at the Echo. I gave him some stick, let me tell you. I shall personally thank him for bringing the story 82 years along, up to the present day for Robert and our serving Lads and Lassies. lets just give thanks and see what happens next. The story continues.............
Graveside.
Its an honour to be apart of such a caring bunch of folks.
