I hope we can find a way to contact Sir Paul - I tried last year because he did a painting years ago of the other Church in my parish and I wanted to show it in our Parish Magazine but I just couldn't find a way to contact him.  It's on the web in one of the Liverpool Museum pages but they didn't have a contact for him either.

Pity the Echo never took up the story - they would have been able to contact him.

As for what's coming in, I am sure we have enough on the way already to turn the stone over but I didn't say anything before as I didn't want to discourage others who want to contribute and be a part of our project.  I was presuming we were aiming to turn the stone and donate the rest to the Church but it looks like more people are interested in getting it fixed now.  Please bear in mind though that there is a huge difference in the cost of turning the stone, and standing it upright and making it safe.  I am happy to keep receiving the donations if required.

One other point is we would need to involve the Church about the placing of any plaques, inside or outside.  In my Church (and all others) we have to get a faculty and official approval before we put up anything, even a small picture on a nail!  It's a right pain but it protects the building, it's history and it's congregation from people who would change it inappropriately.  (It does happen - some Vicars have very funny ideas of whose Church it is when they first arrive!)  Maybe we should bring Graham the Verger in on this.

Hope I haven't put a dampener on the proceedings - just trying to keep these simple!

Well thanks to Jaywit I have written  a PM to the moderator of the Mike McCartney site within the one that Jaywit gave us and if I can suggest some of you may wish to do so too.
I have given detail of the synopsis from Annie and also the URL to this current thread and what our aims are to have the gravestone restored to its rightful place and the cost involved

It looks as though rootschatters are determined that the stone not only be turned but uprighted so lets continue with the fundraising until we get the total required and a big thanks to poll for her efforts and to MissM for volunteering to collect the funds.

Last night I went on the official Paul McCartney website....the same as the one mentioned above.  I couldn't find an email address but I did find a copy of a letter written by...darn these confidentiality rules are hard to understand....so I will just say a very well known animal rights group.

It was addressed to Paul at his corporate headquarters.  If anyone is willing to have a go at writing a snail mail letter I will pm the address.

Modified:  I wonder if Annie feels in our excitement that we have taken over her topic?  Perhaps we should run some of this by her before we go any further??

Maybe we should wait to see if we can do it ourselves first ... a lot more satisfying in my opinion but thats just a personal view  I'm sure we could do it ourselves ...

Good idea polldoll !!

I am sure Robert won't mind so perhaps we should give it a few weeks and see what we can do?  Wouldn't want it to drag on to long as those who have already donated might get a little antsy.

It sure would be something if we could bring enough people and money together to do this ourselves right within Rootschat.

Hello rootschatters

Today I received a reply via PM from the Moderator of the Mike McCartney site above mentioned and she has given me some contact ideas for the McCartneys if you want to go down that route or wait to see if we can raise it ourselves

If so then I would request that someone with good writing skills volunteer for this job and can PM me for the details that I have been given.

Hi All

Just a little note of caution - are we sure the headstone is structurally sound enough to be placed upright?  They can develop flaws/weaknesses especially if it has already fallen over?

I don't think any additional publicity/input would do the project any harm but I would like to see a nod of the head from Liverpool Annie & Michel first, just to make sure they are happy for it to expand to a larger scale.

Sometimes things can get swept away a bit from the initial purpose.

Hi everyone

I popped down to St Peter's this morning and took a few photos for those of you who can't get there. They are taken with my phone so they're not brilliant! Pity it doesn't have sound because the clock struck twelve while I was there and the eight bells rang!

I hope it's okay to post them here.  I'll try anyway.  Here goes... first two...

St Peter's Church from the road
Lych Gate showing path with environmentally friendly bins!  (Tegan my dog is showing you the way to go...)  ;)

While I was there I met Dave, one of the verger's who said Graham had shown him the stone so he took me straight to it.  He also showed me where John Lennon got Eleanor Rigsby's name from and John MacKenzie so if anyone wants to see those photos, I took them too.  He also directed me over the road to the Church Hall and the plaque on the wall stating that this was where Paul met John for the first time. Yes, I took more pictures there too!

The stone is even bigger than I thought and quite thick - I would be surprised if it was damaged enough to be unable to turn it.  It looked pretty solid but it will up to Welsbys I guess.

Anyway, enjoy the photos and when we're finally getting the work done, those of you who can't be there physically can look at these and be with us in spirit.
