Hi everyone
It turns out that Grassi and Welsbys are the same firm and are the closest to St Peters. They quoted me £158.63 to right and fix a normal sized stone but given that this is a large stone, even turning it over might cost 'a couple of hundred pounds' as it will probably required 6 men to lift it.
She also said we needed the owner/family's permission so I tried to explain the story very briefly (that the group had so far not been able to trace any close family) . She asked if we had any funds and I said no, that this is an internet group and we were hoping the costs would be low so we could try to raise the money ourselves. I have emailed the lady the photographs of the grave and she will get back to me as soon as she can. She said they would probably visit the grave and give me a free, no obligation quote.
I've also emailed her the link to the summary of Michel's story to explain why we're doing this. I mentioned in the email we had hoped the Echo would take up the story but had no success so maybe Welsbys might pursue this for the publicity.
Lots of ifs buts and maybes there but you never know, we might get lucky.
I don't see that it's going to be cheaper going anywhere else as then we would have to include travelling costs and time.
I haven't heard back from the Woolton Website that I emailed yet but I've got my fingers crossed that they will reply.
Can anyone remember who contacted the Echo and how far they got with it? It might be worth trying again once we know the costs from Welsbys.
Will keep you up to date,
Lynne
