Thanks for these Mair.

I'll have a look through tomorrow, make a few calls, and see if we can get a price off someone local.

Lynne

Addtion:  I have now looked through the posts in the right order!

Thanks Heysie for the information.  I 'll call them as well.

I agee that Michel should decide what to do with the tag.   It's only right of course. As a church archivist I couldn't help getting carried away! OOPs!

I ll let you know when I find any costs.

Its really good of you to do this for us and of course I know that behind the scenes you have been working on behalf of the thread with the people of Woolton to bring about the turning of the gravestone so thank you very much for all you have done.

Hi everyone

It turns out that Grassi and Welsbys are the same firm and are the closest to St Peters.  They quoted me £158.63 to right and fix a normal sized stone but given that this is a large stone, even turning it over might cost 'a couple of hundred pounds' as it will probably required 6 men to lift it.

She also said we needed the owner/family's permission so I tried to explain the story very briefly (that the group had so far not been able to trace any close family) .  She asked if we had any funds and I said no, that this is an internet group and we were hoping the costs would be low so we could try to raise the money ourselves. I have emailed the lady the photographs of the grave and she will get back to me as soon as she can.  She said they would probably visit the grave and give me a free, no obligation quote.

I've also emailed her the link to the summary of Michel's story to explain why we're doing this.  I mentioned in the email we had hoped the Echo would take up the story but had no success so maybe Welsbys might pursue this for the publicity.

Lots of ifs buts and maybes there but you never know, we might get lucky.

I don't see that it's going to be cheaper going anywhere else as then we would have to include travelling costs and time.

I haven't heard back from the Woolton Website that I emailed yet but I've got my fingers crossed that they will reply.

Can anyone remember who contacted the Echo and how far they got with it?  It might be worth trying again once we know the costs from Welsbys.

Will keep you up to date,

Lynne

Thanks Lynne

We will await another report from you when you get the information from the stonemason that was a quick result so I cant wait to get the result of the cost

We will have to read back and see who made contact with the Echo to see if they can drum up the Echo's interest again to see if free publicity will bring the price down any more.

it was me that got the brush off from the Echo!

I have the tenacity to go for it again if we can get the boodle information from Welsbys.  Did it my phone though and not email as I could not get any further than "newsdesk" and I knew then we would end up in file 13

Hello Mair and fellow chatters

I have just had a long telephone conversation with a family member who has a family member in the Echo who is a good contact and have related the story to him and have promised to send Annies synopsis on to him tonight by e mail and he has promised to try to get his contact involved in the story and guess what

He lives in the Woolton area and said that The Woolton Commission is a community of people who do good for the people of Woolton and it would be a good idea to get them involved as Robert is in their churchyard.

He will get back to me
