I was talking to my sister over the weekend and she has suggested getting in touch with the British Leigon as she was talking to someone about this thread and they said as he was a soldier in WW1 then they may repair it.

Has anyone made any contact with the suggested army people to get it raised or has Graham made any progress with the church.

There was talk of getting the media interested and no more mentioned on it

Have we come to a standstill or are things going on in the background

If things are at a standstill can we get it moving again before interest wanes

I did contact the photographic department  of the IWM to ask if they had an official ,captioned  group photograph which may show Robert Wm.Stead with others and am now awaiting a reply.

Last year, I was lucky enough to find one in which there was my father taken on 2nd September, 1918 at Douverain Camp, BETHUNE, France...Michel's teritory, I think.

I was able to purchase a few of them and gave one to his regimental  museum who did not possess that particular group.

The IWM  have  copyright laws which need to be read in case luck is on our side  and there is a photo of Robert .

The cost is very reasonable £5 per copy plus postage.

The followinghas just arrived from the IWM photographic Dept:

Thank you for your enquiry regarding a group photograph which features
Robert William Stead.

I am afraid that we do not appear to have any such photograph in our
collection.

Group photographs are often difficult to locate as they would have
usually been distributed privately.  The main bulk of our First World
War collection consists of British Official photography taken on the
fronts rather than formal photographs of individuals or regimental group
photographs.

We do receive private donations of photographs that occasionally have
group photographs accompanying other material, but with this particular
soldier, I am afraid that we do not appear to have anything.

I would have recommended contacting the appropriate regimental museum
for further assistance but it appears that you have already done this.

It is a long shot, but it still may be worth contacting the National
Army Museum at Chelsea in London as they have a photographic collection
there.

I am sorry not to be able to help you any further on this occasion.

Yours sincerely,

Laura Clouting

That is a blow  but it may be worth sending an E Mail to the National Army Museum

Hello Norah,

Indeed Béthune is just 10 km far away from my home.

I wondered if "Douverain" camp is not in fact "Douvrin", a small town also near La Bassée.

Oh Edna, that's lovely.
I have always thought that our tag, if it could not go to a descendant, should go into a Regimental Museum, a Military Museum, or to the museum in the town where he lived, to bring it home, so to speak.
