Hello Annie!

How spooky to get your message just now....

I was out shopping earlier and, on seeing the potted heathers thought 'I should have visited Robert's grave today'... great minds think alike!

I will probably go at the weekend just to make sure all is well.

I hope all is well with you and our fellow posters, as it is here.

Big hugs,

Wow that is spooky ...  though not unsurprising really ... Robert has become one of the family that we remember along with grandads and uncles from the past each  year . I t was really poignant that there were no veterans left this year at the  Service at Westminster ... A real emptiness that seemed to only exaggerate the void left by the loss of so many lives over the years right up to  the present .  I do still hope we can meet up in Liverpool one day Annie, Michel  and all those on his thread who helped solve the mystery of Robert's whereabouts .....  maybe one day ....

It is indeed strange as I had been thinkng of Robert and all who took part in the hunt for his family.  That there are no others left now from the 1914-1919 war  makes one think that they should never be forgotten for as children we had our fathers in that conflicyt and now being of the much older generation I have been passing on all I knew from my father and that of my husband from his father to my grandchildren and grt. grandchildren.
Gone are the days when everything stopped on the 11th hour of the 11th month every year  People stopped in the steets and men took off their caps . The silence was uncanny.

To some now, that time seems too long ago but having read two surviving records of WW1 of two uncles and the injuries they sustained makes one hope that the real history of that terrible time will still be taught to the children of this country.

It was good to hear from you again , Annie.  YOU are not forgotten

Best wishes

Norah ! ... lovely to see you !

I remember when I was a kid - how everybody stopped what they were doing at 11 o'clock ! .... things change I know but ......  :-\

Though I was at a lovely Remembrance service on Sunday - there were hundreds there .... and that seemed to make up for the indifference we see so much of today .... anyways it was a very special day for us here .... and I laid my poppy on the grave of an American soldier who died in November 1918 .... so close to coming home !  :-\

What a fabulous idea that is Annie ...  the site is very interesting ... I love the fact that memorabilia and photos relating to  names make them as real to us as  their loved ones and descendants .  I 'd love to  see Robert on there ...  It   would seem fitting .....

Annie,
Today, which we always think of as the real remembrance day, Donald and I were just talking about those who lost their lives even hours before the end of WW1 but it is happening all over again in Afghanistan  and it makes one despair.
It was a lovely gesture to remember in the US.
