it was me that got the brush off from the Echo!

I have the tenacity to go for it again if we can get the boodle information from Welsbys.  Did it my phone though and not email as I could not get any further than "newsdesk" and I knew then we would end up in file 13

M

You weren't the only one Mair !!  ;D .... I also got the brush off from that radio fellah Billy Butler that everybody said was so luverly !!  :D :D :D

Seriously ... you guys are terrific for getting going on this again .... I'm just too far away to do you any good .... but I'm watching and listening ..... the price may blow us out of the water but I would love to contribute if it's at all possible !! ..... this soldier has been a part of my life .... he's "family" ....  :) and I'd love to be able to see him at least - right side up !!

Thanks everybody for caring !!

I contacted the Echo but they did not seem to know about Robert Stead.

Hi everyone,

Here's the quote from Welsbys for turning the stone over plus a further quote for actually getting it fixed so it stands upright.

"This is a four man lift and would cost £94.00 incl of VAT to turn it over. However a refix on safety anchor would cost £587.50"

I'm guessing we'll just get it turned it over then....?  ;)

Out of courtesy we should let the Church know what we're going to do if we decide to go ahead.

Over to you!

Well me too Paula ...I'll pledge £10 .00 right now towards the cost of turning it and then maybe it can be decided if Fundraising is in order for the larger amount ...  All we need really is someone  to  collect the monies and arrange for it to be done ..   SO ...who do I make the cheque payable to ... The stone masons ??? ::)

I've seen things like this collected for through a Paypal account, so people from any country can donate.  Not sure how you'd go about setting it up, probably needs to be controlled by someone on the spot as it were.

It could be an idea to see if Graham Paisley the Vergerfrom St Peters would be in a position to receive the donations from the rootschatters and if there was an over flow of donations to turn it over then perhaps St Peters Church fund could benefit too.

We are open to suggestions as we all have an interest in seeing the stone face the sun so Robert W Steads memorial can be found and read as it was originally intended.

Still awaiting news from family member from the Echo.

Good evening all,

(Electrical problems appear finished for the time being at home!)

It is a real pleasure for me to see the turn taken by events thanks to your stubbornness. I never lose hope to see a happy ending to this fabulous adventure.

As Annie said, Robert is also part of my family.

I am ready you know to participate to pay the stone masons and to have the immense joy of seeing the stone returned.

Yours sincerely

Michel
