Can I put forward, turn the stone, anything left, provided Michel is willing, to the framing of the tag and making of a little booklet on the Rootschat experience, to be presented to the church and THEN anything else to the church funds....
The framed tag could become an 'interest point' in the church, and reproductions of the booklet could be sold towards church funds, something that could go on indefinitely...

At first I felt that just turning the stone over so it could be read would be sufficient.

I now feel that  a veteran who risked his life and spent precious time of his very short life on behalf of all of us deserved something better.

I would like to see his headstone erect again, standing tall as Robert once did in defense of his country.  I see this as doing something for Robert and his memory rather than aiding the church (not that I am against that I just don't think that is the real objective here).

I hope a clear decision can be made as to whether it is just turned over or a full restoration is our aim.  I feel confident that we can come up with the necessary funds to have it put right again.

Just my thoughts....

Hi All, Can I say in my humble opinion that this is about Robert and Michel. At the Church people go to visit Eleanor Rigbys grave and Bob Paisley's. With publicity we could then include Roberts Story.
I have already pointed out to MissM in a pm what quite a lot of people know already is that the Beatles i.e started their career all be it "The Quarrymen!" at the Church Hall at St Peters.I thought why doesn't someone send the link to Sir Paul McCartney for a small donation. If we could send him this link at what the people from all around the world are trying to do maybe he may at least take a look.
Robert may have family living that we haven't found (how not with all the work gone in) they too would be shocked at the discovery of the find and the emotional story by rootschatters that has evolved.
Its just a thought. Maybe with the exposure we could raise all the money. As it is I am sure we will raise the money to turn the stone the right way. If 20 people send £5 that will take care of that. Some may have donated larger amounts which will be great. I was brought up with that fact that if every one gave a £1 we would eventually get there.
I also want to say thank you to all who donate whatever the amount  Its a fantastic cause.
It would be great to be able to send to the Church Roof Fund. But first things first. Roberts grave.
When I went we couldn't get into the Church, so seeing any plaques or other would not have been an option. I must say we were not the only people in the Graveyard.
Lets get the money raised. Maybe someone would send the link to Sir Paul.  Thanks for your ideas for the people to mull over. I think raising the headstone would be my main objective.  That is if we raise enough money.
Michel can, with the rest of the folks involved decide the next step.
Best wishes to all rootschatters on the Blessed Easter Day.

Oh I agree Dolly  and that was beautifully said .  I have still been unable to get a reply from my emails to Michel so I hope that he approves of what we are doing .. I will continue to try and reach him .  I have had a number of responses from the Restoration board and people are sending their donations after the Easter holidays  direct to Lynne so we may be in a better position by Weds/ Thursday next week to see how much we have collected .  If anyone reading this is considering a donation  maybe they could   send a pm to Miss M  to give us a better idea of ascertaining how close we are to the target to get the headstone re-erected . That way we  can close the appeal once the target has been reached .. as you said Dolly, I think the real objective here would be to get the stone standing proud once again . I believe Annie is of the same opinion but I am sure she will join me in thanking you wonderful people for your overwhelming generosity so far ...  I am so proud to belong to the same community ....

 Poll

Fingers crossed that we make it to the target ... A pm to Miss M at the end of next week will give you a total of how much we have ( Trying to keep the moderators happy :-X) and we can take it from there ...

This is the most sensible approach at this stage.  If the stone is able to be turned it will be an acomplishment

I'm not so sure Sir Paul has much money left  ;D ;D (just joking).  It may be a great time for him to get some great publicity in showing just how generous he is when not harrassed, threatened or being taken advantage of.

But alas, his email doesn't appear in my address book and I seem to have lost his mobile phone number   ::) ::)

Could anyone actually get in contact with him?
