As you are probably aware, there were two ? three? or more William Jones in Forbes in the 1870s and 1880s. One of them was a mailman:
JONES, William, mail contractor, Sheriff St (1872 Grevilles P O Dir)
JONES, W, mail contractor, North Hill (1875-76 Grevilles)
I'm fairly sure he had the contract for the Forbes - Cowra run, but I would have to confirm that.
Then there was:
William Jones, auctioneer, Lachlan St (1872 Grevilles P O Dir) (1875-76 Grevilles) who I think was also the storekeeper, in Forbes since the start of the gold rush in 1862:
Not sure if he may have been the secretary of the local school board at one stage. Also his 'wife' was Lucy Vickery. William Effingham Jones, 89, died in 1908, born England, arrived Australia when 19, known as "Hoppy". Twice married.
So if he was born in England in about 1819, that cuts him out.
and
then there was William Parry Jones, who had land between Forbes and Cowra:
JONES, to William Parry and Maria:
1872 Henry J;
1874 William Peter;
1875 Emma Catherine;
1877 Ann Maria T;
1880 Bridget Ireton.
JONES, William Peter, son of Willam Parry and Maria Mooney, died at Forbes on 25 July 1875, aged 15m 4d.
JONES, William Parry, 1911, aged 80 ie born about 1831.
JONES, Mrs Maria - obit F.T. 22 Aug 1919. Born 1848 IRE, marr Grenfell in 1871 to William Parry JONES. Settled at Tomanbil till husband's death in 1911.
A bit more trivia to confuse the issue....
