lizpen,

You seem to have posted this request twice??

See also http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,271312

I can only repeat what I (think I might) have said previously ...

Do link to duplicate posts.

And please do, do provide to helpful RootsChatters all the details of info you already have.

This will mean that helpful RootsChatters aren't spending their time searching for, typing up, and posting information which you already have ...

Etc ...

Hi Lizpen

This is a possibility - allowing for mistranscription/pronunciation errors.

The following from http://www.familysearch.org/ IGI - extracted record

WILLIAM <FAWKES>
22 SEP 1833      St Philips, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Father:     JOHN FAWKES
Mother:     MARY

and from http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/

V1833306 19/1833
FAWKES  William
Father JOHN
Mother MARY A

You could purchase a transcription or if you wish a certificate - details on the website.  A transcription is a  quicker and cheaper alternative

Cheers

Liz,

It really would help us to help you if you were to expand on the information you already have.

For instance, what certificates do you have?  What are the details on them?   What details do you have of the Tasmanian land grant.  How do you know that Clara was born in Ipswich Q?  Why do you think that William was born in VDL?  Do you have information about William's children?  Etc, etc. etc ...

Every little bit of information you provide might just help RootsChatters to help you ...

Hi Cando,

That's great!

Let's hope that Liz can confirm or deny ...

FAUX, FAWKES, FOX - who knows ...

If they stuck with FAUX that would be really useful!

Cheers,

JAP

Liz

Further to William and Clara's marriage:

FAUX, William, (30, carrier, born Tas, widower, son of John) married to Clara McCARTHY, (16, born Qld, dau of John (publican) and Mary (Quinn)) at Methodist Forbes NSW on 12 June 1863. Witnesses: R.P. McMahon, Jane McMahon.

Before you get too excited, I am not a relative but found these details some years ago while doing an index of early Forbes marriages.

Gold had been found in Forbes in June 1861 and at the peak of the rush there was estimated to be about 30,000 people at Forbes, not all miners, but carriers, storekeepers, wine sellers etc.  The main rush was 1861, 1862 and 1863, then other gold rushes saw a lot of these move on.

Cheers

Jean
