Welcome to Rootschat but this isn't a forum for tracing living people and it looks like you may have mentioned some living people which is against the rules. If so, just click 'modify' on that post (you can do this within 24 hours) and remove those names.

in the 1881 census for Scotland there is the following family at 2 Ingleston St, Greenock East, Renfrewshire
John Ferris  22 born Ireland
Jane Ferris  20 born Ireland  (wife)
James Ferris 2 born Greenock (son)
William Ferris age 6 months born Greenock (son)
Annie Rodger 17 born Ireland (sister in law)

Do you think your great-great-grandfather was the above William Ferris (born c1880 in Greenock)? If so there's lots of information on the family already posted here.

There are online resources which will help- Scottish certificates (from pay site Scotland's People), FreeBMD (English & Welsh birth, marriage & death index), Family Search (another free site), etc. If you could give us an idea of dates it will make it easier to help you.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

So it appears that your William Ferris has probably nothing to do with Co. Antrim and is probably nothing to do with the Ferris family in this topic?

It's best to work through available records in a logical manner to avoid following details from the wrong person/family. The latest available census is 1911 (we aren't allowed to do lookups for the England & Wales one) and if you can find your family on that one & work back it should be possible to find where William Ferris was born (England or Scotland).

Other than William Ferris was born in 1856 you still haven't given us much detail so that we can help you.

When were his children born in Port Talbot (names and dates or even approx. dates please)- we might be able to find them in 1901 census for you.
