A lost CORE (Topic finished - Thanks)

I posted this on the 'Kildare' forum and was advised that I might have more luck here - so here goes!

My great-uncle Frank Timperley CORE married Sophie Eliza RAYMOND in 1912. On the marriage certificate he is listed as a Private in the 8th Hussars, stationed in Curragh. His age is given as 26.

That is the last record that I have been able to find. I don't know how to find his service record, if it exists. I've checked the National Archives for the medals. I can't find a death for him either.

Would SKS point me in the right direction please?

This is probably his Medal Index Card You MAY get extra info by downloading for £3.50.

Its the only 8th Hussars MIC  i found.As for service records at present A-B are online the rest will follow soon on Ancestry...WW1 Records were badly damaged by bombs in WW2 60% were destroyed.
If its there it will be at Kew id see what the MIC has to say.

* just had a look online and there are 10 CORE service records to view at present one from Skipton.Coventry London and a few other places.

He (as in rank above if it is your lost CORE has two MICs) the numbers follow each other so hopefully one download will give you both(you get 6 MICs on one download page)

I suspect one is for a 1914 star the others for British war and Victory ...stand by to get shot down in flames though!!

Hi Tia

Was he born in Albert Memorial, Manchester, in about January 1887? If so there are 11 pages of his papers in the WW1 pension file.

Send me an email address if you want them. Although it will take me a while. He was discharged with 40% disability due to being kicked by a horse on active service. So his MIC should mention a SWB (Silver Wound Badge). And he was in the hospital in the Curragh for 37 days in 1916.

Thanks a lot for the links. I find it hard to see how I missed him when I checked NA - senior moment probably! I've downloaded the MICs and they were both the same, but worth a go.
Now I'll have to find out how to interpret them!

Hi Kia looks like ken has found your mans pension/service record on ancestry.
The records are the same service numbers as the MIC and are an interesting read.Next of kin is Sophie.

Does your MIC say "list" anywhere i suspect it could be for the SWB His service history shows service in South Africa and India as well as home which included Ireland no mention of France though There are  other bits im sure you would like to read( he was a naughty boy!!)

if you can post his MIC im sure someone can decypher it for you.

His MIC does say 'SWB List MGC/269'. The comment about him being a 'naughty boy' has me most intrigued and I'm really looking forward to finding out more.

I've tried posting the MIC pdf - first time I've tried it so I hope it works!. Most of it is fairly readable and I need to be able to understand what the entries mean, but there is a spidery entry in the remarks section that has me beaten!

Naughty boy - he deserted twice! And lost 8 years service towards his pension.

I have cut out his MIC and removed some 'dust'. It looks as if his War Medal was returned in 1923. I cannot read the reason. Is it 'indisposed'.

I will send you the pages from his pensions file.

Thanks for all the pages! Now time to get the magnifying glass out. I thought that everybody was able to write neatly in the 'good old days'!!

Your help has unfolded a whole new page in the family history and it looks like it will be an interesting read, after an initial look through.

All I have to do now is find out why his daughter, born in 1915, was given up for adoption.
