Names of villages and towns where they lived include - Corton Denham, Sherborne, Kingstone, Stocklinch, Puckington, Dinnington, Shepton Montague etc

Hi, I have hit a brick wall!!  I am searching for information regarding James Hutchings who was born c 1810 in England. He married a Mary and had a son Edwin who was born in Bath, Somerset, England c 1834. I have heaps of info on Edwin but James and Mary I am having trouble with.  Are these names familiar on your family tree?

Is this the correct family? Dates don't tally with what you have said, so I may have the wrong family. Do you have reason to believe birth was in Bath?

Baptisms St Anne Soho 27 Jan 1839 parents James and Mary of Dean St (father Boot and Shoe Maker)

Jacob born 21 July 1828
Emma born 2 Sep 1830
Edwin born 25 Apr 1832
Alfred born 18 Apr 1834

Thanks so much for your fast reply. It says on his death certificate that he was born in Bath, Somerset but as has been proven before we can't always rely on correct info especially on death certificates. Edwin arrived in Australia onboard the "Zemindar" on 23rd August, 1857 from England to Botany Bay, Sydney, (Bounty). Edwin was 24 years old, a Blacksmith from Somerset, religion Independent, parents listed as James and Mary & could read and write - no relations in colony. I will follow-up with what you have sent me, you just may have solved my big drama!  Thanks so much!

Looking about Jersey I find James gave his POB as Bath as did some of the children later.

Here are the older childrens baptisms which do seem to agree with Bath(also religion Independent from immigration record)

Abraham HUTCHINGS baptised 29 Jun 1824  Somerset Street Independent Bath
Isaac HUTCHINGS baptised 16 Sep 1825 Somerset Street Independent Bath
Hephzibah HUTCHINGS baptised 17 Mar 1827  Somerset Street Independent Bath

These nonconformist records are also listed in the BMD register but I think if Mary's surname was listed it would be in the extracted records

Immigration states He was 25 a Blacksmith, born Bath Somersetshire, parents James and Mary father living in Jersey, mother dead (This means that Mary appearing in later censuses with James may be a second wife also named Mary. - she goes from being around the same age as James in 1841 and 1851 to being about 10 years younger after 1851)

In the later census entries I note Mary gives her pob as Stoke England in one and Cornwall England in others. 1891 she is a widow

Now in St Heliers we have

Testament of Mary DINGLE widow of James HUTCHINGS

There is a baptism 30 Jun 1805 Stoke Climsland for a Mary DINGLE daughter of Richard DINGLE and Margaret HOBBS

You may need to contact Jersey Archives for burial Records and possible second marriage. I do wonder given Mary's age dropping along with Edwin stating his mother was dead when he immigrated if there was a second wife Mary DINGLE so this may not be Edwin's mother.

Brother Abraham married Arabella BELL in St Anne Soho 3 Aug 1845. He had his child in Bath and is in Middlesex in 1851 and then moves to Jersey. He named sons born in St Helier Sydney and Melbourne
