Did Your Ancestors Use Manchester Cathedral?

Were your ancestors born, married or buried in Manchester Cathedral ?  Here is a old print of how it looked when called the Collegiate Church of Manchester.

My ancestors Joseph Adamson and Martha Carter from Ardwick married 14.8.1842 at Manchester Cathedral which was called Collis Parish Church on the marriage certificate.  If anyone is interested in Ardwick 1851 the M/L FAMILY history society have a special cd of the destroyed bits of the census that they could salvage.  HO107/2220.

Thanks for posting that gorgeous print of Manchester Cathedral. My Gt Gt Grandparents were married there in 1855, so very relevant.

What sort of age would you say that print dates from?

Glad you liked it Kate - it probably dates from around the mid 1700's..   Here is one of the Cathedral today.

Yes I have a record of my grt grt granparents on my moms side married 1840, they are registered Manchester Cathedral Reg. at Manchester, ref. CATH/14/51
I will add the pic to my family book.  Thanks so much for them.

Dear Red1

It depends on the dates of the records you're looking for.  If they were pre-1837, then you have to look at the Parish Records for Manchester Cathedral.  Liverpool Record Office may hold copies of these - you could try them on

You could also try the IGI on the LDS site

http://www.familysearch.org

However, if they are after 1837, they can be found through various ways, and the best thing to do first of all, would be to post your names and dates on the Lancashire Look-Up Requests section here.  I'm sure someone on Rootschat will come to your aid.

Thank you for the older photo of the Cathedral.  I have postcard with modern view.
Have confirmation of marriages of Richard WOOD and Alice CAWLEY in January 1837 and of Charles TURNER and Mary FLINDERS in Feb 1832.
Does any one have connections back to these people my gt gt grandparents?

Smashing pictures both.  Yes my Newalls, Newells, Newhalls and Newel who lived in the St Johns district of Manchester, in rather poor housing I understand "the courts".  Had several mariages and baptisms there, but I havn't come across any burials.  I have a marriage for a William Newell 14 Jun 1792, who I have yet to confirm as one of mine, but is likely.  Plus Samuel Newell baptised there 1810 and married there 1832, all his children were baptised there as were most of his grandchildren.
