fochriw hospital
« on: Friday 23 November 07 23:11 GMT (UK) »
Hello there
Can anyone please tell me the name of a hospital in Fochriw.  The reason being as a baby I was, so I was told, in this hospital with diptheria.  I would like to know if they would still have records from way back then, if they have can I access my own records.

Cheers

I found this link for you (for Fochriw Clinic) they should (let's hope) be able to tell you the nearest hospital:

Good luck! Let us know how you get on.  :)

Hello there

Thanks for the quick replies.  Here In NZ we can access our records and my local GP would tell me this.  Thankyou Tristan for the link I will check on this and let you know the outcome.

Thanks again for the help.

Hi again Avril

My apologies, I didn't spot that you were no longer resident in this country!

Hopefully your medical records have followed you around and your GP will be able to help but the link Trystan quotes would be interesting to follow up.

My father was one of five children and they all had things like TB and diphtheria, which we seldom hear of today - how luck that they all survived!

;)

Hello again

Well I put pen to paper yesterday to Fochriw hospital(clinic) and now await the outcome.  I have put as much information as I could about myself, where and when the dyptheria hit , where i lived at the timeand the full names of my parents.  So hopefully we should have a good reply.

I just can't thank people enough on this site for all the help given.

Cheers
Avril :)

Avril, I don't know if this will be of any help, but here goes!

If you had diptheria you would have been in an isolation hospital. There was such an institution on top of the mountain directly across the valley from Fochriw, beside the mountain road from Markham to Tredegar. I remember it well for as Kids we used to dare each other to run up and touch the walls!

Fochriw has a website, I can't think of the link at the moment, but just google it. You could also try www.welshcoalmines.co.uk there are some pretty knowledgeable people there. There's a family tree section and also a general chit-chat.

Hello Oz Lady

Thanks for your reply. I wondered which county it would be in because I came from Rhymney(Mon) and some of the rele's including dad came from Pontlottyn(Glam) and the borders are really really close.  Was it the Mardy Crossings and the river that separated them.  This is just out of curiosty.

Cheers
Avril
