Asselby/Howden Churches COMPLETED THANKSS
« on: Friday 23 November 07 14:54 GMT (UK) »
Good Afternoon,

Could anyone tell me if there is a church in Asselby?  If not, would christenings etc. be held in the church in Howden?  The dates I am looking at are around 1830's to 1860's.

Thank you.

Escargot

Hello Escargot,

I have some indexed Parish Registers for Howden up to 1700 and they have lots of entries for Asselby Knedlington and Boothe (Boothferry).

The 1841 census puts Asselby in the civil parish of Howden.

Regards Oly

Thank you for replying Oly.

Couldn't find any reference on google to a church in Asselby - I will now look at Howden.

Thanks again

Hi
Asselby is next village to Barmby on the Marsh and this place had St Helen's Church and Methodist Chapel.
The Parish Records for these are held at the Treasure House, Beverley, E. Yorks.
Some folk would have used these instead of travelling to Howden.
What name/s are you looking for??

Hello Bendywendy,

I had forgotten about this!  Thank you very much for getting in touch.

The names I am researching in this area are

Alcock      Pears     Fretwell.

They were all farmers in the area.  I am very interested in the fact that there is a Methodist church in Bamby, as I only recently found that the Fretwells were Methodists, which explained why I am having difficult finding early marriages etc.
Whether the Al cock and Pears families were also Methodists, I don't know.

What is the Treasure House?   Sounds lovely!

Carol

Dear Bendywendy,

Thank you so much for all this information.  It is very kind of you to go to so much trouble.  This will help me so much, I had come to a standstill on these families.

I will look at the sites you list later on, when I have a bit more time.

Best wishes Carol
