Hi all, its beginning to look like Thomas Peters last resting place cant be found.

Could you give me a date for William Bray Peters please Raylen? Thank you for Catherine Martin's details.

I will send for Eliza Harris Peters birth cert. in UK. May get another clue.
Another small piece of information is that Thomas'  wife Elizabeth attended the birth of her grandson in Dartmoor in 1873.

I still cant work out if my Thomas Peters is the Rajah one or the Theresa one.

Thanks everybody for your efforts.

Cheers Ding.

Thomas was born in c 1823 and may have arrived in SA with his brother James on Rajah, or else arrived on Theresa with a wife and 2 children ( the wife either died on board or shortly after. I have not seen any mention of the 2 children.

They were all born in Stithians Cornwall.
Thomas & Elizabeth had two sons William (1848) and Thomas (1850) both born at Montacute S.A. A daughter Elizabeth Francis was born in 1852. Her birth cert. (difficult to read) says District of Adelaide, her death Cert. says Mt. Barker. her son's birth cert says Carrington. Elizabeth Francis married Charles Bell in Mt. Gambia Jan 1872, her address at that time was Drop Drop Mt Gambier.
Thomas and Elizabeth had another daughter Catherine who is listed on Elizabeth Francis' marriage cert. as living at Dartmoore Vic. and is listed as deceased on the death Cert. of Elizabeth Peters.
The death Cert. of Thomas' wife Elizabeth (Harris) in 10 Oct 1906 at Parkes NSW says that she was 82 and was in S.A. for 53 years and 7 years in NSW. She died at her Daughter Elizabeth Francis and Son in Law Charles Bell's farm. There is no mention of her being a widow on her death cert.
Her 2 sons had come up to the Parkes/ Forbes district at around 1890 with Elizabeth Francis & Charles.
Hope this is all clear and of some help.

Ding I am wondering if Catherine may have been one of the two chn who may have accompanied Thomas on the Theresa and perhaps Eliza Harris, who died in 1848 was the other child.
http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/fh/passengerlists/1847Theresa.htm

Have you found a possible first marriage for Thomas PETERS in England?

When the chn were listed on Elizabeth's death cert, where in the order did Catherine feature?
Just for your records I detail their the childrens' birth registrations from the South Australian indexes - just in case you want transcriptions.

PETERS  William  19 Dec 1948  Father Thomas PETERS Mother Elizabeth HARRIS  at Montacute  Ref Ade 2/108

PETERS  Thomas 7 Aug 1850  Father Thomas PETERS  Mother Elizabeth HARRIS at Montacute  Ref  Ade 3/96

PETERS Elizabeth Francis 2 Jul 1852  Father Thomas PETERS  Mother Elizabeth Unknown.  Place of birth not recorded  Ref Ade 4/41
[There is a Carrington Street in Adelaide]

I can't see the death of a Catherine with parents Thomas PETERS and Elizabeth HARRIS in the Victorian indexes.  Someone else may find the death after 1872 and before 1906.

Cheers
Cando

Oops.....I forgot  :-\    Thanks cando for posting the date.
Just another "seniors moment" here :-\

Another small piece of information is that Thomas' wife Elizabeth attended the birth of her grandson in Dartmoor in 1873.
I was wondering if it was known which of her children had the grandchild in Victoria as I can't find any births
in 1873 that seem relevant.

Hi, Glad other people have senior moments too. The grandchild was the first born of Elizabeth Francis, he was Thomas Bell but I put the wrong year down, it was 27 Oct 1872. It was on the cert for the birth of their youngest child Roy Bell in Natimuk Vic. that Elizabeth Francis, husband Charles Bell (as the informant) put Elizabeth Francis' birth place as Carrington SA. The only information on her birth cert is - 1852 Births in the district of Adelaide. On her (E F P's) death cert her daughter as informant put her birth place as Mt Barker SA.
Thomas' wife Elizabeth Peters death cert. lists under children of the marriage-- William 58, Thomas 56, Elizabeth F. 54 living and under them 1 female deceased.
The other evidence I have is on the marriage cert. of Elizabeth Francis Peters and Charles Bell in the box marked "In the presence of" is "Catherine Peters sister of Elizabeth Francis Peters " then in the column marked Residence - Dartmoor Victoria. I have no other credible evidence for Catherine so she may well have been one of the two children on the boat. Maybe I can find evidence of her birth in UK. As stated before I found reference to an Eliza Harris Peters born in Truro district in Cornwall in 1839 father Thomas so I will get her Birth cert and find out the mothers name (hopefully).

The Martin information you have sent Raylen is of the family of Thomas Peters sister Catherine and is very much appreciated so I will add it to my tree.
The hardest thing is getting rid of preconcieved ideas!!

Once again thank you all for your great efforts and suggestions.

Cheers Ding

Hello Ding,
I'm interested in the parentage of Elizabeth Harris, second wife of Thomas Peters.

'As stated before I found reference to an Eliza Harris Peters born in Truro district in Cornwall in 1839 father Thomas so I will get her Birth cert and find out the mothers name (hopefully)'.

Were you able to verify if Elizabeth's father was called Thomas and if this is the Elizabeth Harris who arrived in South Aust on the Hooghly?

If her father is called Thomas then Eliz cannot be a sister to John Harris who also arrived on the Hooghly as I have a copy of his marriage cert and his father is also called John.

Elizabeth Jane HARRIS - Kapunda,South Aust/Wentworth,NSW/Mildura,Vic & HARRIS in Kalgoolie/Coolgardie region - West Aust., Thomas KNIGHT - BURRA, GILLESPIE
