Lawrence Edwin Wilson Pearson
« on: Wednesday 21 November 07 20:54 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace any information on my Great grandfather L E W Pearson, who emigrated to Canada after 1910 and returned to Scotland about 1974.
He came to Canada after his wife died in 1910 and he left his children I think with his sister or cousins in Perth, Scotland.
He was a farm labourer in Scotland but was working for the Canadian Pacific railway in Regina, Unity and Saskatchewan.
he had a bad accident whilst working in Canada and came back to Scotland to die.
He was born 7th Feb 1881 in Moneydie, Perthshire and married Jemima Mann 20th June 1900 in Perth, Scotland.
He had 4 children who all lived & died in Scotland.
Hoping to hear from someone.

Charlie.

http://www.findmypast.com/passengerListPersonSearchStart.action has a couple of hits that might be him in 1937, aged 57 - as well as some for L Pearson around 1910 but no age so hard to say without seeing the passenger list.

http://www.ourroots.ca/f/page.aspx?id=3733704 - might this be him? They've listed him as Ed Pearson, and say he was b. Aberdeen, but everything else seems right - he came over 1912, worked for the railroad, then farmed around Unity until a son came over from Scotland to bring him home, where he passed away. There is a photo of him with one of his daughters and her son.
Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Hi Jorose,

not only have found my ggrandfather but the photo and information was fantastic. From the information I had from an aunt and others it is definitely him. he died 4th March 1973.
His daughter married a George Phillips from Nigg, Aberdeen so this may be why they have him born there.
I think I will have to look at the shiping list around 1910-12.
Thank you for the help.

Charlie

I have managed to find my Great Grandfather. He emigrated to Canada on 9th June 1911 sailing from Glasgow to Quebec aboard the Hesperian. He sailed under his middle name Edwin 15 months after his wife died.
Now I need help in finding out how he returned to Scotland in the 1970s.
Can anyone help.

Charlie.
