Prince of Wales (II) from Orkney to York Factory, Hudson's Bay 1862
« on: Wednesday 21 November 07 18:37 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone do a check on the passenger list for the ship "Prince of Wales (II)" that left Walls, Orkney Islands shortly after Feb 20, 1862.

The passenger I am looking for is John Sabiston. The birth date is 1842 to 1844 if listed.

This ship would have arrived at York Factory on Hudsons Bay, Canada. From a copy I recieved of the Agreement between Hudson's Bay Company and John Sabiston, it was signed by John Sabiston and their Agent in the Parish of Walls, Orkney Islands on Feb 20, 1862 so that would mean he would have arrived at York Factory in 1862 and not 1860 as I thought previously.

Any help appreciated as always......

I don't know if this can help or not, but the Manitoba Government has documents for the Prince of Wales (II). Maybe someone that is close to there can do a lookup, or possibly you could write to them.

Hi Janice

Thanks for the assistance, I am not sure about the Prince of Wales (II): Accounts but I will keep the information for the location on the microfilm to possibly check later.

I have however found the location of the Ships Logs from 1855 to 1867 on microfilms 2M86 & 2M87 (C.1/847-860) .

J.J. has offered to have a look for me when she gets a chance as I contacted them and had them check 1859 to 1861, believing he arrived at York Factory in 1860.

In the mean time, I acquired a copy of his Agreement with Hudson's Bay Company which he signed in the Parish of Walls, Orkney Islands and it is clearly dated Feb 20, 1862 which makes it 1862 when he would have landed at York Factory.

If nothing shows up here in the mean time, I am hoping J.J. will have some luck with the micro films finding him.

Cheers, Spanish Eyes

I have put together a list of wills from Scotland and England for HBC men and some settlers that are available on line-
there is Peter Fidler's, a couple of Inksters, Fletts, McDoanld and Macdonald-
if you let me know I can look to see if any of them would be of use to you.
they can be downloaded from the England and Scotland sites and are about 10.00 CAD each.
I also do a lot of research on the Red River Settlement area and have 100's of headstones on file- again if you want you could give me a list of names and dates and I check to see if I have them.

Hi Caroline

Welcome to RootsChat......

I am looking for the gravesites of John J. McDonald and Mary McDonald nee Flett. John died about 1882-1883 and Mary about 1906-1907.

sorry don't have these ones. Have a lot of Fletts and McDonalds but not them.
I found that Flett family very hard to work around.
You will find George Flett ( should be the Grandfather of Mary)
will at  http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/default.htm?source=home
"Will of George Flett, Yeoman of Red River Settlement, Hudsons Bay , Canada   14 November 1851   PROB 11/2142"
they are usually filled with a wealth of information- if nothing else very interesting to read.
