I'm copying this from an old Rootweb posting on the Warwickshire archives.......

There is a place referred to as the Jack O'Watton bends on
the A446 Lichfield
Road between Coleshill and the M42 Motorway. The adjacent
area is marked
as Jack O'Watton on maps and there is a Watton Lane off the
Lichfield Road at this point.
The railway from Birmingham to Leicester also passes right
through this area; so you may well be right with your
information.

It really needs someone from the Coleshill area of
Warwickshire to answer
this one.

Hope this helps in some way

I live locally, have just come accross Jack O Watton as being the residence of my wifes Gt Grandfather at the time of Baptism of at least 2 of his children at Water Orton in 1886 & 1889.
If you Google Map the area there are 3 references that contain the word Watton. Old maps show no structures in the Watton Lane location for Jack O Watton. The Industrial estate might be a location for something in the past otherwise the houses located where the map shows Watton House to be.
My wife seems to tyink it is this last location, I'm going to research this.
Did you get any further with your quest?
John

Bill,
Looking at the 1891 census for my wifes Gt Grandfather & Family (Caldicott) I notice that next door to them are the Mansell family, Thomas, Lydia and 8 Children. Would they be kin to you? I think I know where they were.
Regards
John

Yes that is Thomas my Gt Gt Grandfather's brother and his wife Lydia Washbrook.I have them in every census including 1911 they both died there one in 1924 and the other in 1927.I don't know where the actual house was thought it might be opposite the motor bike shop there used to be some cottages there.

Found some maps & bits to do with 'Jack O Watton', but can't add them as attachments here (or can't figure how to!) - any idea?
Regarding those houses; if driving towards Coleshill just past that Bikers shop there is a gated access to the left leads to a row of I think 8 houses (due to be comp purchased due to HSE2 I believe). They are not on any map found before 1924. I do know the Water Board (fore-runner to Severn Trent Water) built quite a few homes for thier work staff in Minworth and Curdworth areas in the early 1930's, these are the same designs. These cannot be those recorded as the residence in 1891.
I'm looking at the Description of the area as given by the enumerator, and trying to follow the route he took in gathering the data. I'd assume he worked in an organised route through the area, in which case if there are clear locations it might help to eliminate and therefore track where along his route he would be when recording the data for the Caldicott & Mansell Families. By 1901 he had moved to 'The Bull Ring' in Minworth itself, these were the properties opposite Park Lane (the same side of Water Orton Lane as the Social Club), so I'm told!

What say you?
