1851 Norfolk look up request for the name Wagg please
« on: Thursday 30 December 04 18:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi there , could some one do a look up for me please for an Elizabeth Wagg on the 1851 census for Norwich in Norfolk ,I have a birth for Elizabeth as the sept quarter of 1845 , now there is a chance that she is the Wagg I am looking for thus her being later on in life my great grandfathers wife  Eizabeth Durrant !, she would not have been my gt grandamother as we think she died then he moved on to Elizabeth Raby and my grandfather George Christmas was born in 1886 .
I have over the last few weeks been able to move forward only just a little with all of this .
Now I need to build up a picture of the Wagg or even wegg family , any help on this one would be very helpfull in deed .
Thanks and best wishes  Janet . :)

Hi there Teddybear , thank you very much for looking for me , is there any chance that Wegg could mean Wagg ??as I have Wagg as a maiden name for Elizabeth Durrant and the info you have sent me has a Elizabeth Wegg as 6 in 1851, that gives a birth year of about 1845 ! and I have found such a Wagg with that year birth !.
Rather confusing is it not !
I have looked  on 1837 .com found a marriage for a Elizabeth Wagg in what looks like Norwich for 1859 , but could not cross it with a Henry Durrant !.
Not sure what to do next ? the Wagg/Wegg is rather muddling .
Any ideas would be a great help please .
Thanks once again , happy new year , best wishes Janet.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Wegg/Wagg spelling as most people wrote what they heard.  One of my interests is in the name Burroughs and I have seen it written as Burris, which is the way it sounds when said with a Great Yarmouth accent!!!  My Nanny still said Norfik and not Norfolk!

You will need to find what you can but then cross check with other documents and one of the best things to do, I find, is to try to trace siblings as you will often find information while doing that.

Please see my ad on the for sale board as I do work in the NRO if needed.
