napoleonic war veteran's wife
« on: Saturday 17 November 07 01:48 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for information about the marriage record of my gggg-grandfather George Wakefield who was married in Plymouth, Devon on the 7 March 1812 to a woman whose first name was Susanna and whose last name started with "C" but is otherwise indecipherable.  It would appear that it was her second marriage and that she had already been widowed once.  Any information about George or Susanna would be appreciated. :)

Thanks for your reply  :) .  I think you've definitely  found my ancestor as we have another link with Stoke Damerel in the family history.  Her name is very unusual though, anyone out there who could give us information on the origins of the name Creniskamue?

Hi

I have had a look at my three towns cd and found the following. Susanna's surname has been transcribed as Creuiskamue when she married George Wakefield. There are also notes available from the record office in Plymouth.

There is also another marriage for a John Hannarte Creuiskamm 18.01.1809 to a Susanna Tolman at Charles Church, Plymouth.

:)Thanks for checking up on these extra details.  I'd actually suspected that with so obviously a foreign name  the transcriptions might be a bit dubious. I'll do a bit of extra research using these new variations and see what I come up with.
