Joseph Stoodley 1869/1870
« on: Friday 16 November 07 06:05 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for an emigration record for Joseph Stoodley / Studley from England to US in 1869 / 1870. He was born in 1836 & his occupation was a hurdle maker.  I remember coming across something awhile back, but I can't find it again ???

Thanks in advance for your help!

Cecilia

Apologizes in repeating what you already had but makes it a bit more possible for others to find an immigration record  (particularly one from this time frame) if you have information on the entire group who travelled and where they ended up  ... much more likely to pick Joseph out of the enormous crowd of mis-spelled names if wife and children (when known) are identified     :) :)

Spent some time perusing the NY, Philadelphia and Baltimore Lists  for 1867-1870, not finding them,  maybe somebody else will have some better luck.

Assume you have already been to resources on-line like Cyndi's List,  Immigrant Ships, Ships Lists, Olive Tree, etc etc.

Best of luck!

lissa,

Thank you for the time you have spent trying to help me :)

As you can probably tell, I am new to this research & learning the hard way as usual. Early on, I would spend hours searching through different on-line lists & not keeping track of the results. I found a Joseph on an immigration list that seemed to be a possibility. The spelling was way off but I remember he had an occupation of hurdle maker. This was before I found out for certain that this was indeed my great, grandfather's occupation so I didn't bookmark the find & now I can't find it again :'(  I know I  have checked the ancestry.com immigration sources. Beyond that, I'm not exactly sure what I've checked or not checked at this point. I'm not familiar w/ all of the sources you mentioned? Is there one site that has links to all of them? As you mentioned, all of the different spellings of Studley / Stoodley is adding a level of difficulty to the search.

Any advice you have on how to proceed would be much appreciated!

Cecilia

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=263657 - from your other thread it seems they also used the name ROPER.

You might have more luck looking for the emigration of Lydia as there won't be as many of those.
