Thanks for the link I will forward more info about this family when I have more time.  I have been searching this family for quite a while now and just need the time to post it all!  But the information you have is very similar to the info I have already. :D

I have the marriage certificate of May Ann Hay to  Richard Cowie In the parish of Airdrie or New Monkland

They had 8 children
Richard Born bef 30 June 1850
John              Bef 27 Mar 1853
Jane              Bef 18 Aug 1855
James            Bef 10 Mar 1830
Marion           Bef 8 May 1831
Archibald       Bef 27 Nov 1842(I think that this child died young and as was common practise the next boy was named Archbald too)
Archibald       Abt 26 Dec 1847
David            Abt 1862
1881 Census
Aged 18
Dwelling 11 Alexander St New Monkland, Lanark Unmarried
Barber Assistant

Great Grandad Richard Campbell Cowie was Barber and owned his own shop in Airdrie born 31/12/1902 possibly trained by David source Dad told me he used to get his hair cut there

Much of the information I have given is from the Scottish Church Records and census
