Dawson in Emley, Thornhill, look up please
« on: Thursday 15 November 07 11:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi folks,
Can anyone help me locate the parents and ancestors of Matthew Dawson b. 1815 in Flockton, Thornhill or Emley?  His father was called Joseph Dawson and may have come from Emley.
Matthew married Charlotte Barstow b. circa 1815.  They had children Francis (from Charlotte's previous marriage) b. 1832,   John b. 1844, Emma b. 1850, Charlotte b. 1856,  Benjamin b. 1859 and Arthur b. 1864.
Ever hopeful,  John.

Hi John,

It looks like Kirkburton is the parish for them. There are no baptisms for Matthew DAWSON, with a father named Joseph, at Flockton, Thornhill or Emley.

Good Luck!
Diane

Hi folks,
With Flockton, Thornhill and Emley being discounted, (thanks Diane), I have to ask you grumpyblondie, if you checked the Kirkburton records for Matthew's birth?  If you haven't, would you do that for me please?
I do thank you for the Joseph Dawson info, birth 6 Jan. 1779, at Lepton, and marriage 2 Dec. 1811 at Kirkburton, they are both possibles.
Lepton is not too far from Emley nor Kirkburton I believe.
Fingers crossed,
John

Glad to be of help.  I got this information from booklets compiled from the original records by Huddersfield Family History Society.  The only way to look at copies of the originals is at the Mormen Church Family History Centres who have them all on Micofeche.    I have the booklets for baptisms from 1772 to 1822 and marriages from 1800 to 1825.

If you need any more lookups please pm me and I will look at them for you.

Regards Val

Sorry forgot to say but I cant find Matthew Dawson in 1815 at all,  infact there were no Dawsons born in 1815 at all.      There are no births for Joseph and Rebecca in the 1813 to 1822  Kirkheaton booklet.   They must have been living somewhere else when they had their children.

Thanks Val.
I must look at other parishes in the area for my Dawsons.
Cheers, John.

Hi John,

I'll just throw this in as one to consider - even though I know you said your Matthew's father was called Joseph -

Emley  baptised 19.5.1816  Matthew Dawson s/o John, a labourer & Sarah . Abode is Emley.

Sorry if it's totally irrelevant!!
