If anyone has any Foord information, or has a Foord clock or watch, please either post a message in this forum or PM me.
Thanks!

Hi there,

My father-in-law has Foords in his tree so your post caught my eye - I can't see any connection but did see this in the 1861 census:

RG9; Piece: 561; Folio: 54; Page: 18
Civil Parish: Hastings St Mary Magdalen
Ecclesiastical parish: Chichester
County/Island: Sussex

32 Norman Rd West
White Hart Inn

Charles Foord, Head, Mar, 32, Retailer of Beer, born Battle
Mary A Foord, Wife, Mar, 32, born Battle
Emerly E Foord, Dau, 11, Scholar, born, St Mary Magdalene
Charles H Foord, Son, 8, Scholar, St Mary Magdalene
Elfred G Foord, Son, 6, Scholar, St Mary Magdalene
Charlotte Foord, Dau, 4, Scholar, St Mary Magdalene
Sarah Foord, Dau, 2, St Mary Magdalene

All born Sussex - plus some servants

Could this be your missing Alfred - especially as the enumerator has written Emerly for Emily - Elfred for Alfred?

The family are still together in 1871 (Charles having remarried), but "Elfred" is missing, so possibly yours!

Of course the only way to really find out would be to order his birth certificate, but I'd say this entry is a strong contender :)

Kind Regards,

Karen

Well done on the Web site - it looks very, very, promising to me at the moment and I like the way the pictures just seem to sink into the text.

No doubt as you find more data it will expand over several pages - but it is an excellent start

Well done

Larry

Spotted this in the Burials - fits in perfectly with a birth about 1855

FOORD ALFRED GEORGE, aged 90, buried 13 September 1945, Hastings Cem. Div A.

What do you think

Hi Karen.......you are right, it is a strong contender. I am exhausted here (it is about 6PM), I have had a long hard day (especially for a semi-retired guy) so I am going to have my dinner and relax. But I will have a go at it in the morning and get back to you then.

And thanks very much for writing!

Chris, I got your email with the notes and will get it entered on the site tomorrow. Give you a good plug..... :)...which you more than deserve!

And there can't be too many Alfred Georges, I will doublecheck tomorrow but can't see how you could possibly be wrong.

Thanks for the comments on the site, it is coming together finally. Have more pictures to add yet, and a bit more on the Kent side. What I really need now is a "Chris in Kent"......... :)

I am worn out, time to sign off for the night............have a great one!

Larry,
Congratulations on the site. It is very interesting. Like you, I thought that the Foord name was uncommon when I first started my research. However, that's not the case. I have quite a bit of information on the Foords of Westham (from about 1800 onwards) who moved to Ringmer in about 1890. There is quite a bit of information on the Fo(o)rds of Ninfield who included James Ford who was sentenced to transportation to Australia for his part in the Battle of Sidley Green.
I'll keep an eye out for your ancestors.

Regards

Not sure if you have this yet:
Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World (vol.2):
FOORD James Hastings 1862-78

No mention of Foord in vol. 1.

Hi Mark.......thanks for the nice comments. I have been chasing Foords for a long time, but primarily because of my Kent interests, thus the Sussex stuff is relatively new to me. I do certainly recall the James who "created" the immigration to Australia. Truth is, without his genes, there wouldn't be nearly as many Foords in OzLand! Don't think there is a connection though unless I can get back further. Be sure to write if you run across anything else........Larry

I was aware of it, but nonetheless appreciate your taking the time!
For what it's worth I do have this (and a couple of others clockmaker/watchmaker books) so if anyone wants another watchmaker looked up be glad to do it.
