Larkin trace please
« on: Thursday 30 December 04 12:42 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I'm wondering if any distant cousins, or anyone else, would have knowledge of my Gt, Gt Grandfather, Edmond Larkin, who would have been born around the 1840's.

I know that he was married to Mary Jourdan and that they had a son, Peter, on 24/7/1864, who was born in Ballindoreen.

Peter married Catherine Quigley (born 1863).  They moved to County Durham,England (date n/k) and had 5 children;

Mary E -1885
John L -1887
Peter - 1889
Michael - 1891 (G'father)
Teresa - 1893

Unfortunately, I do not know what became of these and would very much appreciate any help/assistance that anyone can give, to all mentioned.

Thank you

Neville Larkin

Hello Neville,

A belated welcome to RootsChat.

What denomination were your Larkin ancestors?

You'll have to rely on Church records to find more information about the birth of your great great grandfather as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Marriages of non Catholics were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

I have some data on Edmond Peter Larkin & Mary Jourdan.  Unfortunately, I have nothing on your ancestor.  My data include other children's names and a fairly full lineage of their daughter Margaret Elizabeth Larkin.  If interested, feel free to use my email (*).  //Steve

Hello Neville
I sent your post to a friend who does Larkin research.  He's not 'into' using RC.

I'll PM you what he says

Dawn M
EDIT:  Well I can't PM you because you haven't made enough posts. So this is it:

He says
"The family is from Toreen, Kilcolgan and is the family of **  who showed me around south Galway in 1992. The original Edmond is the son of Peter Larkin who with his brother Joseph built the family barns in the 1820s near the "new" home which was built by their ancestor in 1772.
I have not heard from **  of Toreen since 2003, so not sure if he still lives there."

Yes Aghadowey - I didn't think to look at Neville's numbers before I wrote the reply, and you can't tell when doing a reply.  Which is why the edit.

Thanks

Hi
I have a Margaret Larkin b c1799 married to a Lawrence Dooley.  It would appear that they may have been living around Mount Bellew before immigrating to Claylane, Derbyshire, England between 1851 and 1861. Their children were Bridget, Patrick, Martin, Mary, Lawrence, Thomas, Catherine and William Riley Dooley.  William later married a Bridget Burke from Durham.

Is this any help to you?

Regards
Kerryn

Hi Kerryn
Nevvo hasn't been online since 2005, so you may not get an answer from him.
