15 Malyons Terrace, Ladywell, Lewisham - BEARMAN
« on: Tuesday 13 November 07 12:16 GMT (UK) »
Just posting here on the off chance that a search engine might one day direct a Bearman relative my way.

During the first world war and possibly longer my Bearman family lived at 15 Malyons Terrace, Ladywell Lewisham.

I know this because it is the address on Ross Bearman (Bertie Ross 1898 - 1918) attestation papers, also on the attestation papers of his brother Frederick Charles Bearman(1890) and the CWGC has it as the address of brother James (1893-1917).  All three boys born Greenwich.  Frederick Charles emigrated to Canada - don't know what happened after that.

Still don't know what happened to Edmond/Edmund (depends on which census you are reading) born 1887 Greenwich.  Charles Alfred born 1895 Greenwich, sisters Lily Alice M, Greenwich 1885, Elizabeth c 1889 Greenwich and Alice Dorothy 1901.  Lily Alice looks to have married Verdi James F Howard in 1907.

Head of the family Frederick William probably worked at the nearby railway station, died in 1929 in Lewisham.  His wife was Martha.

My great grandad was William John born 1882 Greenwich and he is already married with a family of his own living in Greenwich in 1911 when my grandad was born.

Surely out of 9 children, even given that 2 of their young men perished during the first world war....anyway here's hoping one day there will be a contact.

thanks

Hi there - my name is Angela Potter from Tokoroa New Zealand.  It is amazing what you can find in a Google search...and this is my first ancestral search.  Alice Dorothy Bearman is my paternal grandmother!

I just got all excited and phoned my Dad who confirmed that she is one and the same.  This was her address and my Dad was able to recall other names that you had listed also.

Alice Dorothy Bearman married my paternal grandfather who was John Arthur WILLY.

My Dad's name is Peter John Willy and he is the oldest of three children - Peter John Willy, Thelma Dorothy Willy and Anthony Arthur Paul Willy.

Peter (Dad) is a retired engineer and was born on 28 October 1936, Thelma is an accountant and was born a couple of years later (unsure of her DOB but can find out for you and Tony (Anthony) is a retired District Court Judge and again, I'm unsure of his birthdate.

Peter (my dad) married my mum Barbara Kay BERGMAN on 22 December 1970(ish).  Aunty Thelma has never married and Uncle Tony married Helen RICH then later divorced and married again recently.

Peter and Barbara have three daughters of which I am the oldest...
Angela Kay born 20 July 1973.  I married Stephen Charles POTTER (now separated)

Jennifer Robyn born 14 July 1975 married David John WOLFE and they have two children - Kaitlin Rachel Wolfe and Matthew David WOLFE

Rebecca Ann born 4 October 1978 married Scott Graeme HARTY and they have
two children - William Oliver HARTY and Tom Edward HARTY and she is pregnant with a third, a little girl.
Uncle Tony has two daughters...
Sarah
Rachel

Both girls are now married and have children of their own also.

My Dad adored his mother Alice Dorothy BEARMAN and had a very poor relationship with his father and her husband John Arthur WILLY.  Dad doesn't speak much of his childhood and I feel that a lot of family history will be lost if I don't look in to it now.  I am really interested in knowing a bit about where I come from.  I'm so glad I found your post on here and I'll help in any way I can.  Please stay in contact with me on my e-mail address which is * or you can look me up on facebook under Angela Potter.

Kind regards

Angela

Oh Wow,
twice in one month - ROOTSCHAT you have excelled yourself!

Hello Cousin,
this is so spooky, your Alice Dorothy is on the marriage certificate for the first marriage of Frederick Charles Bearman and his descendant Bill Bearman who lives in Canada contacted me through this site earlier this month.  Bill also was a newbie to this site and to family history research.

I had found Alice's marriage to John A Willy in 1934, but didn't know what had happened to her after that.
I use a system called dropbox www.dropbox.com to share files, I'll send you an invite to my Bearman genealogy file, which is how I am sharing files with Bill.  Also if you go on facebook and look for Bearman Genealogy Forum, you'll find a group I set up on there; some of the members of which are related to you.  Bill - Frederick Charles Bearman's descendant, Brandon - Ted (edmond) Bearman's descendant, me, my kids, my cousins descended from William John Bearman and also the descendants of one of their uncles William Bearman, Jan Bearman Brown who I am sure will want to say hello.

I am Suzanne Newell nee Bearman and we live in Staffordshire, lovely to meet you :D
